Ok since I've had my Avensis 5k miles so far in a 54 plate D4D T Spirit, I've wished that it had a few options that Toyota could have fitted at no extra cost :)

so I'll start you off with a few examples.

An option to display a clock on the TNS display instead of average speed.

Rear view auto dim at night time disables when you select reverse.

A cup beverage holder that can take bottles

Folding door mirrors switch with a light to show you where the button is at night

Front lights that come on when you disable and arm the alarm ( see you home lights )

DECENT SOUND PROOFING :ffs: grrrr road noise

please add your own

Well most of that sounds quite reasonable, I don't have a new Avensis, probably never will do either, but the main things that comes to mind on my old Avensis which my Primera had were interior lights which stay on for a few seconds when it's unlocked which the Avensis doesnt do, they come on for about 2 seconds so they've gone off again by the time you've got to the door, and why is there no flick/mist - wipe.

My wish list would be:

1 Global closing for the electric windows from the alarm remote

2 Clock repositioned near to cup holder (in middle of dash)

3 Illuminated light for mirror folding switch

4 Lumber support not just for the T Spirit

5 Automatic lights on start up

6 Heated windscreen (ala Ford)

7 Sun roof option on T3X (maybe a cheaper manual version)

8 Rubbing strips on the side of the car (option)

whole heartily agree with the illumination of the button for the folding mirrors.

My others would be a diesel option for the tourer for T3X trim

Rear parking sensors as standard (optional front ones would be nice, although with my wife I'd need them on the sides too :blink: )

Full size spare wheel

My wish list for my next Avensis would be

1) a postal code input for the full map DVD sat nav with speed cameras locations on the map with a little yellow box icon.

2)A position memory button for the seat function on the electric seats in the T spirit.

3) Indicators on the wing mirrors

4) a cold box for the glove compartment or centre cubby box ( Skoda do it!) :yes:

5) twin reversing lights

6)front skirt warning sound before you hit it with the kerb!

other than that a cracking car!

My wish for an option:

TTE powerbox for the D4D with full engine warrenty.

Toyota offer this for the T22, new RAVs and Landcruisers - but not the T25.

I belive I have the same engine as the RAV, so WHYCANTIHAVEAPOWERBOX!!!

There are other solutions (www.kcr.se) - but then theres the warrenty.....

- yes to the postcode input for destination - my brothers jag has it and its great

- my avensis verso HAS apower socket in the back

- re heated windscreen - I was told that FORD would not license this technology - does anyone no of a non-ford car with it?

Otherwise my avensis verso is pretty good though the kids do occassionally complain of feeling travel sick when sat right at the back, so perhaps the suspension could benefit from a tweak (theres always fine in the other seats)

You have been able to get wing mirrors with indicators as an accessory in Japan since this model came out. Need to find someone over there to ship them back to you

Mine came with a few "accessories", I wish it didn't have!!!

For example, Road noise because of insufficient soundproofing, Wind noise about the rear windows, and a few highly irritating rattles in the dash!!!!! Thanks Toyota.

I made sure I test drove mine in various situations (motorway, street, fast, slow etc) before I purchased it because I had heard about road noise (Chilean roads are generally crap!)...mine doesn't have this problem thankfully! No rattles either...yet!

The Avensis is a great car and after paying GBP12500 for the Chilean equivalent of the 2.0 T-3X Automatic (only 1 version in Chile) I am very, very satisfied. :thumbsup:

I have installed an Eagle Eyes 5200k HID lighting system, a Parrot 3100 bluetooth system and a Viper Alarm system...next up is a DVD and monitor for the kids and a sunroof as Chilean version does not have one :(

What I would like Toyota to install for my next Avensis would be an MP3/CD player as standard, side mirror indicators, a visible exhaust, preferably chromed and maybe twin pipe.

I do love my Avensis though!

Hi!

First of all, I would start by saying that, for me, the new Avensis is an exellent and competitive car, but I think also that Toyota, with few and cheap improvements, could make this car a really PERFECT car.

So, my wish list would be:

- automatic lights on start up (in Italy, by some time, you have to keep headlamps on 0-24h, on all roads);

- illuminated light for mirror folding switch;

- an option to display also a clock on the TNS display;

- global closing for the electric windows from the remote key;

- more for symmetrical-aestethic reasons than for practical ones, there could be twin reversing lights;

- rear view auto dim at night time disables when you select reverse;

- on A/T Avensis there could be more space for the right foot when it is on the accelerator pedal (about an inch could be sufficient);

- why Toyota don't insert in their respesctive holes the body rubber plugs (Toyota part number: "90950-01550") directly in the assembly plant? for shipping tie-down pourposes couldn't they use some Toyota-all-models-standard screwable steel hooks or similar things, to unscrew directly in the arrival port, leaving only non-internal-structure-surfaces-communicating water-tight threads, so dealers can't forget to insert the body rubber plugs?

- finally, WHY Toyota engineers haven't yet put an automatic transmission on the 280 Nm 2.0 D-4D engine? The japanese Toyota-A/T supplier Aisin-Warner is producing by some time state-of-the-art +350 Nm five and six speed FWD automatic transmissions: what are they waiting for? personally, and in general, I never would buy a diesel car because it's true that a diesel engine has more torque and at low rpm, but also is true that the optimal operating rpm range is quite restricted, so you have to work a lot with the gearbox lever; however, I think that a commercial traveller or who in anyway have to do many miles/year would be VERY happy to enjoy the adventages of an automatic transmission; and, moreover, Toyota engineers could put an A/T on the D-4D engine also for glamuor reasons (all Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Volvo diesel models have the option of an A/T).

Cheers, Alberto.

P.S. for "Avensis luna 03": maybe your dashboard rattle is due to the fact that the VSC/ABS/EBD/BAS/TRC system is normally doing its preliminary controls in auto-check mode? My Avensis user manual say this in many places (ABS system explanation paragraph, for example), saying that "at engine start or immediately later it will be audible a click or a characteristic noise coming from engine area" (I hope I have translated well... ).

When your new law takes effect, I'm guessing that this will be done on every new car sold in Italy

In Denmark, we have had this law for some years and every new car has automatic lights on startup - as required by law

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your suggestion. I read somewhere in these forums that Toyota has brought out 3 "anti rattle kits" to deal with different rattles in the dashboards of the current Avensis models. I intend to test these in the next few weeks as I hopefully will get time to bring the car back to the Toyota Dealer and get these problems looked at. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for yur help,

Joe.

I would be happy if the Avensis '03 Toyota Europe chief-enginneer Suguya ********usato would read this topic.

I Would add (January 2005 Avensis 1.8):

- Medium lights auto-switch to parking lights after you shut off the engine (like in VW)

- Ilumination of wing mirrors control buttons when lights turned on

- Better ilumination of electric windows switches

- Double reverse light instead of single

- Lower armrest between front seats

- Better footrest beside the clutch pedal

- Turning/waiting the entering key in the door lock opens or closes all windows (like in VW)

- Original CD Changer with CD-Text option

- Sound mute button on the steering wheel

- Driver's seat should be able to go down a bit more (I'm tall, can't feel well in the seat)

- 12V plug in the trunk

- White light when you open the door that illuminates the floor should be red on the top and white at the bottom so it could be warning light for incomming cars as well

I'd appreciate

- two reversing lights, one is pretty useless and looks odd anyway.

- mp3 cd player of head unit that takes iPods

- a decent manual that's easy to follow.

- a better cab heater on the diesel.

Road noise is less with 16" wheels & no low profiles. The ride is much better too. 17" should be optional on all models so the TSpirit & T4 would be cheaper!

:)

An automatic and decent boot light.

You can get auto Avensis you know-I have one. ;)

And agree on the light-both sides of the boot and a clear lense with a brighter bulb would be nice.
