i found my lamda sensor gave me grief a few weeks after i decatted mine - seemed to run rich and the auto choke had a mind of its own .

power change i say your pants soon gets used to the power change , its no big deal. but this is my experience not everyones before i gets slated.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

You ought to get a few more HP from a decat. Like maleborn said though, you are unlikely to feel the difference when driving.

Don't forget that you will need the cat in place to pass an MOT or any other emissions test. There have been stories of people fined heavily for failing a roadside spot check.

Err no! decat does add BHP..not much but if you get a new system and a remap you do!!

As for roadside checks...you only need your cat on for the mot...so i thought! Ive been stopped a few times and never had an officer check my pipes out lol

Regarding emissions tests, read Blacksheep's comments in this thread. There are also some opinions on expected power gains from a decat.

Interesting. I think Blacksheeps mate got done for more than not having a cat fitted. Couple of things to clarify here.

1/ A cat is only a legal requirement on cars REGISTERED after January 1st 1992.

2/ You would not be prosecuted for not having a cat during a roadside test. Regardless of the age of the vehicle. Provided the vehicle has passed its MOT test on emissions then that is valid until the expiry date of the MOT certificate. You would possibly get a rectification notice IF your emissions were too high.

3/ The following extract was taken from a MOT Q&A site.

EMISSIONS TEST WITHOUT CAT

Q./Is it a reqirement for a car to be fitted with a catalytic converter if is was original equipment. I have a 1994 Saab turbo which is currently running with a 3" front exhaust ipe(non-cat). Provided my car can meet the emisions levels required for the age of the vehicle am I correct in assuming that the presence of the 'cat' is not a necessity?

A/.There is no necessity to have a catalytic converter on any vehicle. However, your vehicle will be MOT Tested as if it had one and it is unlikely that it will pass the emissions part of the MOT without the cat. The reason being that the engine and the catalytic converter were all part of the same integral design to meet the emission requirements when the vehicle was manufactured.

I was surprised by Blacksheep's story, there may well be more to it than he told. I have heard that the law is clamping down on this kind of thing though. If you drive a visibly modded car (thinking body kits and huuuge loud zorst), then you are likely to gain the desired effect of attracting attention, including that of the old bill. If your exhaust looks pretty much unassuming, and you fail an emissions test, they are much less likely to notice that you have a de cat. More likely you will get told to 'get it seen to'.

6 points and an £800 fine does seem OTT though.

Maleborn, decatting a turbo car is supposed to have a much effect than an NA. You might want to think about it when you get used to the extra horses in the GT4.
