THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON FOR ABOUT 500 MILES AND THEN GOES OUT. MY GARAGE (NOT A TOYOTA GARAGE) HAVE DOWNLOADED THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT FAULT LIST AND REPORT THAT THE FOLLOWING CODE NOS. ARE THE PROBLEM;

PO420 AND PO430 CATALYST STSEM BELOW THRESHOLD ????

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THIS IS PLEASE - IN DIZZY BLONDE LANGUAGE PLEASE!

(ALSO PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO GO TO A TOYOTA GARAGE AS DON'T HAVE THE CASH AT THE MO...)

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Description

Indicates Bank 2 catalyst system efficiency is below the acceptable threshold.

Possible Causes

Use of leaded fuel

Damaged HO2S

Malfunctioning ECT

High fuel pressure

Damaged exhaust manifold

Damaged catalytic converter

Oil contamination

Cylinder misfiring

Downstream HO2S wires improperly connected

Damaged exhaust system pipe

Damaged muffler /tailpipe assembly

Retarded spark timing

PO420( no cat)

PO234(waste gate)

PO335(crank Sencor)

PO340(cam sensor)

check that the car does have a catalytic convertor on the exhaust system , this could be leading to both faults if its missing , if it has one chances are its dead. :thumbsup:

take out your efi fuse for 15 seconds and replace it or take off the earth lead from the Battery for 15 seconds and replace to re set the error codes they may not come back on.and stick to unleaded fuel if its petrol engine. :thumbsup:
