Celtic - have you had to leave the gps aerial on top of the dash? Does it not work under the plastic of the dashboard? I would have thought it should still work OK under the thin plastic of the dash - I know the gps for the TNS 300 has an earth plate behind it (just a sqaure sheet of metal) - maybe that's what your gps needs. I'll let you know how my install goes!

Nope, its all installed hidden away now. I opted for it to go under the air vents above the stereo - nice tidy job - very pleased indeed.

On the back of the Sat Nav head unit is a black 12 pin connector socket - I believe this is for the CD changer option - you might need to check this with a dealer if you can also look at the rear of your current audio unit and see if the CD unit is connected to this socket if it is then it should work the same.

Thank you :D

All,

For those that have fitted this - where are you placed the GPS receiver?????? I attached mine to the back of the unit, but this then failed to pick up a signal???? Hence its all sat on top of the dash whilst I find a better location. The cable from the GPS to the Sat Unit is rather short!!!!! If anyone has a picture, then please post!

Rich

Where are you placed the GPS receiver????? What does that mean?

I can quite easily see how it could be fitted up side down - remember mirror side up, I've fitted mine to the pipe that runs behind the audio unit with a cable tie and I receive a strong signal at all times. I think it would be unsightly and a pain to stick it on the dashboard. All the Toyota range with factory sat nav have it mounted out of sight.

Sorry should have said "WHERE HAVE YOU PLACED THE GPS ANTENNA".

Anyway, I have mounted mine now above the above the air vents over the stereo (See attached), then dropped the cable down to the back of the unit.

It then took a good 20-30 mins before the GPS really kicked in, but seemed fine after that!

Blimey hope your not leaving like that!!!!!

Now its locked on have you tried putting it back to under the dash, I can't see why it won't work as its no different to mine.

I've fitted the full screen nav now - what a cool piece of kit. Am interested in connecting a reversing camera - there is a 2 pin plug on the back of the unit, but I'm not sure if it needs a PAL camera or NTSC. Any ideas? I believe Japan uses NTSC so maybe that's the most likely - anyone done this yet? Something like this from Maplin maybe -

I've had a look at the maplin camera, its not a true reversing camera i.e. you will get a mirror effect when reversing and will want to turn you wheel the wrong way!!

Go on eBay and search for reversing camera you will see one or two that are available. It needs to be + 12v& NTSC as the head unit does not support PAL. On the rear of the unit is a white 4 pin socket, you will need to connect the video output +ve middle phono connection to pin 1 and outside phono -ve to pin 3, to get it to activate when selecting reverse connect power to the + 12v reversing light blub connection on your car and -ve to the chassis. Hope this helps.

Rowena461 that's really useful - many thanks. I have ordered one of these:

Reversing camera

which should do the trick, and it's extra wide angle 120 deg as well. Have you got one wired in at the moment? How are the pins numbered as you look at them - is 1 the top left? Is there a 12 v supply available from pins 2 and 4 when the vehicle is in reverse, as I have the Rev connection wired up? I'd prefer to use the supply from the unit rather than tap into the rev light circuit if poss. Looking forward to trying this one out!

Mooranger you'll have to post some pics when you do it, and to show it finished too.....I am tempted to do this especially with the lack of reversing sensors!!!!

Well done Moonranger I haven't got one wired in at the moment but will do very shortly - I don't think it is a 12v supply from the head unit (probably half that) that is why I would suggest tapping into the reversing light which would be very easy and not a mess,

Looking at the rear I would say that Pin 1 is top right next to polarising knotch.

Was looking at the Rav tonight working out the best place for the camera and reckon it should fit into the high level brake light unit. The bulb doesn't take much space up and the camera is really small (well it is on the eBay pics anyway!) so hopefully it will fit. Nice and neat that way too, so the dog can't knock it with his big solid head every time he rides in the back! The cam should arrive soon from the US so I can get playing!
