Cars Dead - Help Please

Need some help :(

My cars been dead a week now, its been at the garage. Theres no error codes. The coil pack has been changed and that was fine, the whole distributor has been changed with a brand new one (£350 :o ) and its still not sparking. There is a spark coming from the coil, but there isn't one coming out of the brand new dizzy. The earth and live wires going into the dizzy have also been checked and they are fine.

Come on guys what else can it be :? It's being towed to Mr T tommorrow.

A suggestion by a specialist was that it could be an alarm fault - but how can it be if powers going to the dizzy :?

:( :( :(

If you`ve got a GOOD spark at the coil and the wires to the dizzy check out ok. It must be the dizzy at fault.Mustn`t it ????????

I`m assuming you`ve checked/replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm and HT leads

Not too familiar with the ignition systems on these cars so a couple of stabs in the dark off the top of my head.

Crank sensor???????

Ignition module?????????

Sorry cant be more helpful. Good luck.

SOME IMOBILISERS ARE TWIN PROTECTION , STARTER MOTOR AND IGNITION SYSTEM , did they replace the dizzy cap too ? it may be cracked. did they replace the ignition module as mentioned?

Thats what I thought. Its a brand new dizzy (including cap, rotor arm) so it cant be that. The HT leads are 4 months old - Its not getting a spark from the dizzy cap nevermind the HT leads :(

Crank sensor is built into the dizzy so with the new one that should be fine.

The ignitor has also been replaced with a spare one that he had and still no joy.

Thanks for the help

well the cars turning over so it cant be that. The igniter and coil are getting readings. Sparks are coming from the coil.

The dizzy cap is brand new as it was part of the new distributor.

Igniter has been checked and replaced

Cheers

Check the centre contact of the dizzy cap. I`ve known them to be missing on 'new' ones. Easily overlooked.

Might be worth checking the cam timing. If it has jumped a couple of teeth it may

be sparking inbetween HT leads therefore not having enough spark to jump to

the lead... also is the spark yellow or blue.

One other thing... how are you checking the spark at the HT lead?

Fitting a spark plug into the lead and earthing the lead is best. Have seen people fitting a

screwdriver in the lead and trying to hold it near the earth with no spark

showing, but with a plug in a spark was seen.

wow, im actually talking to jesus B)

anyhow, im testing a spark by earthing a plug.

the spark was blue and bright. since then ive been playing with the dizzy, swapping rotors and playing with the coil. now im not even getting a spark there

so ive towed it to mr T today, where ill let him wave his magic wand over my poor student wallet :hokus-pokus: :crybaby:

cheers

you must be banging your head againsed a vey hard wall! i know i was when i had the same symtoms!

my cure was a 2nd hand coil pack off eBay but you said you have replaced yours?

was your coil pack a new one or a 2nd hand one? my crap coil pack gave a spark but must have been a weak one (there is test equipment to test how good your spark is) just my 2p`s worth anyway!

hope you get it sorted!

You're not kidding, its been 10 days now since I broke down, and each time I get a new part thinking it will sort it, I get excited, I just want to drive the beast again :P

It was a brand new one from Toyota, £84.50, then a new distributor of £345. I thought there was no point in using second hand parts as it seems a false econony. Anyway I have a refund on the coil and will be getting a refund on the dizzy

If anyones worried about getting a refund from Mr T, then you can. The part must be unused (well clean it up good if you have used it  ), in it's original undamaged packaging and must be returned before 15 days of purchase
