Buying An Avensis Vvti Automatic

I just registered and expecting some advise from former Avenis owners or experts.

I am about to take delivery of a Sep,2000 Toyata Avensi VVTi Automatic.

Car has got AC,CD player and only 15000 miles on clock and cost is 6000 pounds.

While reading through some details on internet, I realised that a lot of people have reported problems such as excess consumption of engine oil etc,

Just wondering,if you can help me if it's going to be good decision to continue with my purchase or cancel it.

What are the ususal expected problems with this car.

Please help, I already had hell(ish) problem with my previous cars i.e. Ford, Daewoo Leganza etc.

hi,

if its a 2.0 litre VVT-i then you have no problem at all...but if your gonna get the 1.8litre then...your problem starts!

Mine is fortunately/unfortunately is a 1.8 litre automatic ...

btw dealer has given 1 year warranty ....so hopefully any mechanical problems should be covered ...

Already handed over the cheque ...

But ...what kind of problem are expected from that car ...

so that ..if they start happening ..i will get rid of the car ....

Main Avensis trouble particularly in the old shape ones run to engine trouble, manual gearboxes failing (not going to affect you), steering racks, a few electrical gremlins and quite flimsy build quality, plenty of rattles with time too.
