Gt Crusing Speed For Max Mpg?

What speed do you think the best compromise between MPG and getting to your destination quickly?

Thought there might be a point at which the celica GT (6th gen) would start to gobble up double the fuel... i know on my last car (honda powered) if you cruised with the revs under 4,000 then MPG would be ok but anything over it would use loads!

Ive been cruising at 80MPH (on private roads of course)

keeping revs under 3K will prove most economical, also get through the gears quickly i.e. dont get to 60mph in 3rd - be in 5th by then mate. dunno what speed the 6th gen does at 3k revs, should think it to be around 75-80mph..

For the a 1994 mk2 MR2 with the same 3S-GE engine, Toyota claim the MR2 can return 35mpg at 75mph, and 45mpg at 55mph :)

And the mk2 MR2 and gen6 Celica GT have always had the same Toyota fuel economy figures.

I thought they had different gear ratios and (very) slightly different mpg?

It would be interesting to know some absolute figures from the Celica drivers on here. I know that my gen 5 (pre cat + lambda sensor), will only do 18 mpg (yes, really) around town no matter how I drive it. On motorway journeys the very best I can get is 35 mpg, but it's usually just under 30 mpg. It seems to make little difference whether cruising gently at 70 or 80 mph.

Mine also seems to do much worse during the cold weather. I know it richens the mixture for the colder air, but I seem to end up 3-5 mpg worse during winter.

Come one peeps, get some figures up!
