my car went in for some work today, nothing major, alternator belt, power stearing flush and renewal and rocker cover gasket replacemnt.

point being...........

go told that my belt tensioner needed changing because of the bearing.......

toyota price.....£94 +vat :ffs: :censor: :ffs: :censor: :ffs:

dont know if anyone has had this problem before?? easily sorted out...

went to a bearing supplier and got a replacement for £3.30!!!!!!!

so peeps, have a good think and ask a few questions before going down the easier and more expensive route of TOYOTA!!!!

hope this will save someone else a load of money

Yeah. Found this with BMW as well. Had to replace a rear wheel bearing. BMW price 34 quid. PARTCO price 22 quid. Bearing seller chap 9 quid. Exactly the same make as the BMW one. A serious case of profiteering methinks,. The old saying Caveat Emptor springs to mind. Buyer beware.

It's all to do with the number of "middle-men" involved. Also the other influence is the location and size of the dealership as the overheads will be higher too.

If you ring around the various dealers for pricing on the same item, you'll get different quotes.

It's well known the partco type places are loads cheaper as a result

Sometimes though a 'Main Dealer/franchise' can be cheaper than partco type/places.

An instance of this was my local Rover Dealer. Due to the place being so vast they held stock for a lot of older BMC/Leyland cars and it was genuine new/old stock. This place was ideal when I wanted bits for my MGB and the prices were cheaper than so-called MG Specialists; plus being genuine Leyland the quality was better on certain parts such as 'Chrome' trim/brightwork.

Sadly this excellent dealership along with a couple of other helpful dealerships in my area has now since closed :(

Everyone's in it to make money. They're not here to help you.

There's a serious lack of customer satisfaction/importance now in pretty much every trade. It's all about the money.

The genuine guys that are there to help are the ones that don't make the money... but you'll go back to every time.

The bigger a business becomes, the less they care about their customers.

i second that

if the tensioner rollers are steel they should be ok , but need changing at least sometime in the cars lifetime. unlike the ford guaranteed to shatter plastic ones :lol:
