Make sure to ask them to stamp your service book. Most places won't do this automatically.

When you drop the car off tell them in no uncertain terms to check with you and get permission from yourself before they replace any items not normally included in the service.

Still regardless of the above statement, be prepared for the final bill presented to come to more than they quoted.

Also check the car over thoroughly afterwards, inspect all parts they claim to have replaced - to make sure they actually have been replaced

Don't let my words above put you off - it's just after having so many cars serviced at different dealerships, I have learned most are a bunch of cowboys and never to trust them.

I also have had Toyota services go without a hitch and everything was bang-on

System~G: Well said Sir!

A good point to mention that main dealer/franchise centres can be 'cowboys' as well. In fact recent consumer surveys have proved this in the last couple of months.

That's basically £100 is just labour, but when they get the car it'll go up in labour time & part costs like System~G said, whatever they quote it'll go up :(

The main dealers will charge approximately £80 - £100 for a full "A" service which will include oils, filters and other normal misc. service parts. This should also include the labour - usually around £40.00 an hour and checking of all other wear and tear items. The figure should also include disposal of old oil and service parts.

On a 20 000 I would have imagined it woud be the cars 2nd service at least and may have to have added bits like spark plugs and possibly brake pads (and discs if neccessary) replaced too.

Like I said above I have had very good service from main dealers before, but I have also had bad experiences. The first major service I sent my MR2 in for I was quoted £80.00. I agreed with them to replace the rear discs and pads. When I went to collect the car in the evening, I was presented with a bill for nearly £300.00!!! :o They had done more on their own "initiative". I was stupid and paid.

My advice now would be not to pay for anything you haven't agreed to have done to the car - even if it means them removing new bits and fitting the original items back on at their expense. Obviously taking the issue up with the management.

Don't stress yourself out too much, they're not all cowboys and most of them should treat you and your car well

For that price I hope they did more than just change the oil :o

In the back of your service book, there would have been a check list of all they should have done - it would have been an "A" or "B" service. This can be confirmed by the receipts they gave you :)
