Mk2 Big Brake Kit

I just recently bought my 1983 Supra, and am looking at adding a lot of power. I want to install a big brake kit to help stopping power, but I can't find one available. If anyone knows of one please give me the link to it.

As far as the big power... RabidChimp.com makes a turbo kit for 5mge and 6mge engines that will pump it up from 160 flywheel hp to over 400rwhp. Of course you have to beef up the bottom end and fuel supply and ignition... but they carry the items for that, too. If you have a Mk2, I would like to trade pics with you via e-mail... The link for the turbo kit is http://www.rabidchimp.com/mk2sup_rcp_ct26turbokit.htm Check it out!

I used to have a mk2, i dont anymore. sounds like a lot of work though for that engine.. why not do a transplant with a 7M or JZ engine? For the $4000 you could probably buy a 1JZ engine and do the swap..

1J mk2's are known about, and someone in aus is running a well documented 2J conversion..

I agree with Adi.. transplants are the way to go. I'd personally not use a 7m either!!

I looked into the route of doing a transplant... but it actually would come out a lot more expensive in the long run... and i like the idea of keeping it as Mk2 as possible. Thanx for the advice though. I would still like to know about other items available for my car though... seeing as this is my first Supra... if anyone knows the greatest sources... it would be much appreciated!

okay.. makre sure you get that head reconditioned the same time as you do everything else though.. the 5/6M heads are an appalling design prone to oil blockage.. once this happens the rest of the engine goes through a breakdown :D

Go for a 1JZ-GTE (or 2JZ) if you like boost or for a 1UZ-FE if the smooth power delivery of an N/A is more your thing.

Even with that kit on it you'll still be stuck with what is in essence a boat anchor.

And I can't really see how that Hitachi hair-dryer will get you from, let's be generous here, 100 rwkw to a flame spittin' 300 rwkw. And with a 60-1 you'll sure find out what turbo laaaaaaaag stands for.

Of course if that's what floats your boat then "t eh 5M can nevah loose!"

Cheers, Yves.

The 5M even makes the 7M look good *shudder*

He speaketh the truth!

Toyota's boat-anchor series. Try a 4M "powered" MS63 if you ever have the chance. Not the car you want at age 18, 'cept for that comfy, fluffy backseat maybe. ;)

Okay, let's try this one more time...

I never said i was keeping the 5m... the same company makes that turbo kit, also carries race built 6m's... not that it's any better of an engine, but i still want to keep it Mk2... the furthest i would be willing to go is 7mgte.

check out both of these sites and tell me what you think.

thanks for your input,

Fair enough,

If you want to keep it as much original as it is then I would settle for a 6M-GE (some very late JDM Supras came with a 6M-GEU from factory). It's as good as a simple drop-in. If you use the 5M-GE ECU there's very little to change as far as wiring goes and you gain some 20-25 kW at the cranck, which you'll notice fairly well. You'll need a few bits from your 5M engine to go on the 6M one.

Looking at the links you posted I would seriously consider finding another engine supplier if long term reliability is your concern: looks like all they do is replace the easy to get at gaskets/seals, not bothering with the other bits. And pulling a single rod bearing cap and having a look at it, then they say something along the lines of "most likely to show wear". Not really my idea of a reliable rebuild!

As for your brake setup, quite some people have been using Subaru WRX STi items, there must be quite a few pages on the net about this. As we speak some people are looking into using Nissan 300ZX/R33 Turbo items, still a few small bits to iron out though.

Cheers, Yves.

Did the Mk2 ever come with the 1G-GTE??? (or super hcarged/twin charged variant?) I know some other variants of the celica supra did (Celica XX ran a 1G in some forms)

Although its only a 2.0, I think its better then any "M" series, infact they still use the 1G today, in n/a form in the IS200.

The M series was originally a truck engine, hance tthe low down torque, and total disregard to any form of weight saving ;)

Not that I'm aware of. There were the GA6x Celica XX's that came with the 1G-GE and the 1G-E but not the 1G-GTE or 1G-GZE.

The only 2 litre turbo MA6x that I know of came with the M-TE lump.

Cheers, Yves.
