Here we go again

My mate as got himself a 2001 celica, and yesterday took it to

his local garage to see if it needed the timing belt changed only

to be told it as a timing chain :!Removed!:

I thought the days of timing chains had gone with Noars Ark ..

anyone know what it as ??

The biggest reason for using belts over chains is to keep production costs down. It also keeps dealers in work (replacing belts is the biggest part of servicing most cars).

so the zz engines have timing chains? never knew that :D

Nowt wrong with chains. The main reason chains were ditched for belts in the early days was noise.

Even the nissan SR20 uses a chain!

What mike says is prob correct- adds to the dealers after sales revenue

AFAIK all of Toyotas VVTi engine (except early ones like the BEAMS) use timing chains instead of belts.
