Hello i finally got my 1,3 12v carburated EE90 rolla from my father!!

Now which version of the 1,6 4age gti 16v i should choose in order to take about 200bhp without the use of a turbo or a compressor?

I know that this could be the best solution but i said i don't want to use a turbo or a compressor...and this engine has one..

you'll be hard pressed to make 200 ponies from an N/A 4A-GE. and even if you can it wont really bedrivable for road use.if you want an N/A 4a then you need the Non- TVis engine from a 1991 car that will give you about 130bhp then add air cleaner, exhaust, superchip and you'll have about 150bhp

Would the 20 valve 4age not fit?I'm sure you will start off with something like 160bhp and then do some more mods like xhaust, induction kit/throttle bodies to gain a few more horses. You will struggle to get to 200bhp with a NA engine though.Good luck

I agree with all the reply's here! You will seriously be hard pushed to get 200bhp out of a 4AGE un less you have won the lottery! Or your going forced induction!

Back in the 80's TRD managed 220bhp out of their full race AE86 Corolla, but that 220bhp didnt arrive until 10,000rpm!!!!!!!!!!! And it didnt even start to get into its power band until 6000 rpm!

So unless your sponsored by someone like TRD to fund your project i would set your sights lower!

What are you intending to use the car for after?? Road/Rally/Race etc??

or you gould transplant a late spec 3S-GE shold be good for at least 175bhp

you are right guys!!!So i think i'm going to be good with about 160-180bhp!!i think this isn't too difficult..Right???

I'm going to have it for the road!!

Also something else! What's the best set of suspension and springs i could use for my EE90??i don't about the hardness at all!!

Sorry for my bad English..

You can get carburettors for the 4AGE but their potential is not much different to retaining the electronic fuel injection (EFI) system. A lot of kit car builders will swap the EFI for carbs but this is usually due to space constraints and it reduces the wiring requirements. The 4AGE only came with carbs in a few very early cars (AW10 MR2) and they're extremely rare.

I would advise that you find some technical books to read on engine building, tuning and maintenance. Then decide on an engine/gearbox combination and make sure it'll fit in the car (I'm not familiar with the EE-90 so maybe some of the other Corolla guys can help with that).

If you have a garage to work in get an engine stand so you can strip the engine down and rebuild it. If you are after N/A power you're going to need to go high compression which will involve reboring the block and fitting new pistons and reconditioning the cylinder head/valve train (the benefits of porting and polishing are debatable so I won't go into it). High lift/duration cams will add a few more ponies (www.tedcomponents.com/4ag.htm is a good source).

After that you're going to need to replace the engine management system and fueling, in other words a programmable ECU and larger injectors with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and larger capacity fuel pump (4AGE has 215cc/min injectors at the most, you'll probably need at least 380cc/min). Then the usual exhaust and air intake.

All this on a 4AGE would probably bring it up to the same HP rating as the last generation of the 3SGE with most of the power coming in the top of the rev range and will cost a load of money. So you may be better off starting with a 3SGE, as they say 'there's no replacement for displacement' :D (apart from a turbo/supercharger). On the plus side you will learn a lot from the experience and that in itself may be worth the money.

I'm sure I've missed things out and apologies for the essay but I hope it's of some assistance! :group-cuddles:

Chris

its like yours in the picture..

I've just spoken to Fensport and they told me that the GTI shocks will fit on the 1.3 models.

Here ar some of those pics too. Ones a bit out of focus.

The engine looks a little rough because it hasn't been run for a couple of months.

At least you corrected yourself! hehe!

The 3A-LU was a crap engine, and was only fitted to the 'S' model MR2! Mostly for european/american market! Not the UK! But a few did slip past the net! The 'S' model had no sideskirts, spoilers, colour coded bumpers etc, and the interior was different, some had no sunroof at all! And all came with steel wheels!

Not only is it carburetted it is only a 1.5 litre SOHC with 83bhp@5600! Pretty poor!

Anyway, back to the real engine 4AGE!!

If your after serious power you are going to have to get rid of the EFI system! Mainly because you cant re-map the std injection system!

Either a pair of DCOE 45 Webers(or bigger) or a pair of Throttle Bodies, with a complete engine management system! (omex, Motec etc)

Try this website! This bloke no's some serious stuff! :)

Why get rid of the EFI, IMHO it's just as tunable as carbs. Use a megasquirt and you can remap to your hearts content! I admit there may be some problems at the highest tuning levels with air flow restriction on the original intake manifold but I imagine less restrictive systems can be made/bought.

Bill Sherwoods site is one of my favourites, good link!
