Will A Cd Changer Work

I've got a 52 plate Yaris GLS with a tape deck and radio. I want to get a cd player put into it but resent being ripped off by Toyota (they just quoted me £325 for a single slot player!). Having read a number of threads on here I gather that putting a cd player head unit that wasn't from Totota in would result in the tape player and radio not working - which I don't want. Would an aftermarket autochanger unit also result in having to disconnect the radio/tape player? I'm not remotely knowledgable about cars or audio systems and I don't want anything fancy or instructions on how to do it, just want to know if it can be done! Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks! I'm not gonna try it myself since I'm totally hopeless at this kind of thing (can barely tell one end of a screwdriver from another), but now I know it can be done I'll go down to the car audio place and ask them to work something out. Anyone care to recommend a cheap compatible player? (Just cd is fine, nothing fancy needed since it'd be wasted on me!)

Anything by sony is going to be good as they do very good cd players. (and they fit with the connectors) I think kenwood one's do too... they're excellent players... very reliable.

Excluding the price of the actual changer, a reputable place (i.e. a good car audio establishment) should charge no more than £50 to fit the unit. That includes the necessary connectors which they'll most likely have to order in specially. It should also take an absolute maximum of 1.5hrs (and im being generous with that) to do the job.

So if they start quoting 2hrs labour plus parts... tell them where to stick it!

Thanks! My local car audio place is fitting a 6 slot autochanger by Alpine, whoever they are, for £45 ex parts. Thanks for all your help!

Alpine are a very good car audio manufacturer... arguably the best. Make sure they don't sting you for parts!!

It's ok. They've told me what the parts will be and cost and it seems reasonable (£175 for the autochanger and some adapter thingy) I just didn't mention it in my last post :)

ETA Thanks though - you've been really helpful!
