i just had the mot and my car failed on the track rod bar(the bar between the track rod end and the steering rack) cause it had play in it,so i had a new one put in,passed the mot, then went to bathwick tyres to get the wheels aligned and said they couldnt do it causeit kept spining?? but they are a ball socket that spin anyway? any ideas??

It could be possible that the new 'rod' between the steering and trackrod end is lose or not tightened up properely  (from the way they describe it) but i'm sure they would have tightened it due to the safety angle. Also even the tyre centre would not have let you drive away if that had been the case.

Although you had the track rod bar on one side replaced the other is still the original. It makes me wonder that if you were having tracking done they would have to adjust both sides however the trackrod end and bar area on the other side could be seized. This is quite common at some tyre centres now ...they don't have the time to unseize components due to their turnover comitments.

If my ideas are wrong, sorry :(

However i'm sure the likes of UNITY JON, TOYMOTOR, DAWSEY and so on (sorry if i've missed out some of the other excellent helpers/tech advisors) will be able to advise or have a better idea of your problem.

I think they are a torsion bar sort of setup!?

Maybe they can't shorten or lengthen it due to the thread being nackered?

TOYMOTA (sorry, I didn't mean TOYMOTOR I meant TOYOMOTA ...my bad spelling  )

Yes the thread stripped could be a possibilty.

shiizzzer, when they put the car on the laser alignment, the drivers side wheel was fine but the wheel with the new part on was a bus ride out!! the mechanic said when he turns this one it should be pushing the other in??? :help: which is what i didnt under stand <_< but the new one was turning around easliy as if it was new,and no signs of stripped threads??

cheers stella
