Yes, I agree. Total respect for the way you've handled this, DA.

Just remember that insurance is partly to cover problems with these sort of people. I know it doesn't seem fair but it does protect your interests in the long run.

No, I'm not an insurance salesman, just someone who has been there himself. Everything sucked at the time but I was glad of the insurance!

How are things insurance wise? will you be able to claim from the "victims" fund as it were?

Vipes

I'm not sure - apparently the insurers can claim from the person who owned the Focus, even though they werent driving it at the time, the car is legally their responsibility etc etc - although that seems a bit unfair to me...

I'm calling them today anyway as someone from their claims dept was supposed to call me last Thursday and no one has! I might mention the "victims fund" and see what they say.

I must admit I'm glad of insurance but not happy at how much my premium will go up because of this - hopefully I'll get my 2 years no claims back eventually but its the price of the insurance in the meantime thats annoying - and I hate that phrase "regardless of fault" - I couldnt stop them hitting me - I didnt ask them to do it and yet I'll be penalised for it - just doesnt seem fair.....

The "Victims Fund" is actually an organisation called the MIB - Motor Insurers Bureau..all insurers contribute to it in their overheads, but as Em has Fully Comprehensive Insurance she will be unable to claim for it..as harsh as it is cos she's got fully comp the MIB say that you have that cover to claim from. If you have TPFT/TPO then you will be able to claim from the MIB as you have no-one else to claim from.

As for claiming against the person that owns the Focus that is something called the "last known insurer" for the vehicle..and is done as a last resort which is obviously true as the :censor: that caused this crash legged it and havent been caught :ffs:. I don't know much about it to be honest!!

I hope that clarifies things a bit - I have to advise people of this everyday :crybaby:

Thanks Blue84 ..very helpfull.

Never really thought about it..but yes...it's the car that's insured...not the actual driver. so....even if there rightfull owner wasn't driving it... it was the "car" that caused the damage"....funny way to look at it..but can't see why not!

Just slightly off topic but I would like to know how the Focus was pinched!

Surly a high performance car would have some solid security? How do chav’s steal cars like that?

Unfortunatley the focus is relativley easy to steal. In tests done in mags, even the yaris beat it. New focus is much better though, and it's the first car ever to get 100% in crash test ratings.

Apparently the lads involved has also burgled a house that night aswell so the liklihood is they nicked the keys from the house and took the car - although I'm not sure about that.

Just proves that no matter how expensive your car is - it can still get nicked!

I just wish I knew who the little F***ers were so I could give them a right good smack for what they've done - none of your girly slaps - a right proper smack in the chops and a kick in the balls. I'm sure the owner of the Focus would agree!

I think I'm getting a bit paranoid now though - everytime I see a group of chavvy kids in the street - I think "Was it them" - hopefully they will be caught soon and I can rest a bit easier!

That’s a pretty poor show form such a big motor company.

You're damn right it is! The best is Lexus, with the top three spots being Lexus!

Ferrari are also terrible... they got into a 360 Modena in 12 secs and drove away in less than a minute. Shocking.
