1995 Avalon Owner Wants To Read Obd Ll Codes

I would like to purchase an OBD ll code reader for my son's 1999 Solara and my 95 Avalon. I find that everything built in 96 and later had a standard Data Link Connector(rectangular 16 pin) According to the Calif. Air Resources Bd. documentation, my 95 Avalon engine is complient with J 1978 specs even though the DLC is round instead of the rectangular standard. Anybody know where I might purchase an adapter from the round to the rectangular shape so that a standard OBD ll reader could be used for both cars?

Hi...I am pretty much in the same situation, but my car is a Camry...I checked the connector ,but it was somehow a round type connector, NOT a regulad OBD2 plug... It would be helpful to find out what is needed if a code or a check light would appear... Thanks..
