hiyas,

does anyone know how to get a few more horses out of the UK 1.8 VVTL-I TSport engine? Taking the cat out dont do anything apart from make it smell and give it a lower exhaust tone, i ended up putting my cat back in after the engine lights kept coming on and i didnt notice any performance change, i guess that trick dont work anymore.

any suggestions greatly appreciated...Paul

Can't find the link just at the moment, but a new intake/exhaust and an APEXI ECU (sold on the US market) will give you slightly over 210 hp performance. Now that seems like the most the drivetrain can handle, so wouldn't suggest bigger changes!

Had a word with our resident 'Hot Rodder' at my place of work about this problem and he said some modern vehices do need management system reprograming/resetting if 'Cat' is removed; however not always...on some cars (Peugeot 306 as an example) when you remove the cat the ECU is to be disconected for about ten minutes (just by unpluging it) when reconnected it 'resets' itself and this time allows for no cat as it sets it's self up. All cars are not like this thought, also your car is probably still under warranty so he wouldn't recommend you go disconecting your ECU " to give it a try" !

Perhaps some other member of a more technical knowledge in this avenue could advise a bit more?

Hi IS,

AFAIK TTE guys don't sell the 2zz SC as a standalone kit, do they? Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Best,

@ Mr.Nibbler:

I would recommend to replace the stock airbox with a Blitz SUS power air intake (the stainless one-not the LM), change the stock hose from the throttle to the air intake to a Samco one (custom work needs to be done) and get a piggyback ECU connected in parallel to the stock one i.e Dastek Unichip, Greddy e-manage, Apexi Power FC will do!!

Finally you can change your stock spark plugs to a cooler degree. I don't know the UK specs but in Greece we have NGK-6 or Denso IK-20 Iridium spark plugs fro stock. So, if these figures are the same in UK you can go for TRD IK-22 Iridium spark plugs or Bllitz 7 @ NGK scale.

Also, if you are a "custom work" lad, you can make a heat shield that will prevent engine's radient heat from coming into the air intake and connect a ram-air tube to the front of the blitz intake, as to bring cool air to the system.

The overall gain of these mods? 18 hp at the wheels & 20 Nm more torgue dynoed on a brand new Dastek dynamometer.

By installing the spark plugs the only thing you gain is a fastest response of the throttle in the low-mid rev interval!!

Now...if this update is just not enough for your taste you can proceed to a TRD exhaust manifold, HKS ground wires (or to save some money you can make your own ones), custom final muffler (test it with the manifold) & hondata intake heat shield. Of course you should combine these mods with TRD flywheel & sport clutch and if you want with Unorthodox Racing ultra-light pulleys.

All these would give you an extra 12-14 hp @ the wheels and further torgue development.

I wouldn't suggest replacing your cat or installing a cat-back system other than the muffler, unless you are into some serious mods such as TRD high compression piston set, crankshaft, etc.. You won't gain anything by altering the cat & the cat-back...on the contrary you will loose!!! Trust me on this!! The stock cat and cat-back system are very good and reasonably free giving the correct back-pressure when installing the TRD manifold and a tested final muffler!

Just my 2 cents on further development of the 2ZZ-GE engine!! :hokus-pokus:

That?s what I want to do when I get the CTS! Just to compensate the 60 kilo music system (includind noise isolation) and other confort nods like pre-ignition heating.

What about the warranty??? Sticking in an ECU in parallel? This means you can take it out when you go to the garage???
