I have seen some Paseo (or any others) jamex lowering springs and all cost only £58 + £9 P&P at http://www.trackstore.co.uk/shop%20frame.html trouble is they are only a 35mm drop (and 2-3 weeks on order) but right above it says Starlet 1.0 / 1.3 / 1.5D 10.84 to 3.90 40mm drop (I know its only 5 mm but it all helps) and probaly quicker delivery for the starlet (or are they ust as rare as the paseo.

does any one know if these would fit as I asked trackstore and he was not sure, and as I have stuck 17's on it I dont want to drive a monster truck anymore :D

cheers in advance for any advice

Hi mate,

I think that they might be the same part i think that the seo shares the same shocks. (someone confirm though please!!!!)

However, if you have a gen2 paseo, i would recommend you spending a little extra to get spax ssx lowering springs as these drop the seo -40mm and you can get them on no probs with 17's as that's what i run.

The springs are around £90 from demon tweeks.

Also spax are a well know company that always produce good quality springs and ive had no trouble with mine at all (touch wood)

Hope this is helpful...

....If you need any help don't hesitate to pm me if you want!

Hi matt

thank you for the reply, yes i have a gen 2 paseo and I read on here 40mm should be no probs- so I thought i want the full 40mm, if its worthgettin the spax i might have to get them then, How long did it take for yours to arrive?

cheers

i went for spax mainly becuase of the reputation that they have and one of my friends races track cars and he has had trouble with all sorts of suspension apart from spax and swears by them!

I know some people have fitted pi springs and i dont know about them but i can tell you from experience that they are good.

To be completely honest i cant remember how long they took to arrive because of the fact that the seo is a rare car demon tweeks had to get them from spax but i pretty sure that they arrived within 2weeks. (i think it was something like 7-10 working days)

Are you fitting the springs yourself???

Hi matt,

yeah I wanted some before christmas, my misses said I could have them as an early present. I have a mate who works for ATS he said to take it down on a sunday and he will fit them.

While you here I looked in your garage/homepage to check out ur seo, looking good bythe way, Is that a universal or paseo fit exhaust as I gotta a universal one similar to yours but its just under the bumper but i wernt sure how to make a hole (neatly) for it to fit snuggly in ( I was hopoing it would melt into place but no joy) how did you do yours - have you got a alu plate to sto any meltage?,

Ps I like the screen in yours - **** hot - good I was wondering what to do with the other din slot :D

cheers for your advice

Cheers mate, i'm getting there slowly.

The suspension

A word of advice for when you take the rear suspension off, undo it from the inside as the little hole that you can get your hand in in the boot is way to small to work in. The pannels just pop off from under the parcel shelf. its so much easier and saves a lot of time!

The screen

That screen in the photo has been replaced as that one broke and i got a free upgrade from a 5.6 inch screen to a 7 inch screen so im well chuffed. That is a centurion screen that is wedged in but the second din slot makes a good place to put it along with neon switches!!!!

The exhaust

If you fitted a universal one the well done as i had a look at one with my mate whos a mechanic and basically came to the decision that it would have been too much messing about to do so i got powerflow to do me a custom backbox and so i didnt have to worry about a thing apart from choosing the tip and how loud i wanted it!!!

They used a marker pen to draw a rough guide the size of the tip then cut it with an air powered saw with god knows what blade. Soz bout that one!!!

hello again

the plan is for my mate to fit shocks and give him a hand to do it on his day off, he said that thier branch dont usually do shockers so we will have to buy or burrow some spring clamps/tensioners or what ever they are.

yeah exhaust was same senario, gave him a hand after hours, I had to cut the thin

sheet of metal above the backbox so the exhaust sat in its right place (only about 3cm) . to fit it it was about 8 inches to short so looked in they store room and he cut a 8 inch pipe offa new exhaust (the shops stock lol) which clamped on sweet - no welding. (then hid the ruined exhaust in the scrap bit)

I know what u mean if I knew what a pain in the **** it was I would of bought a paseo one,

like my 17's i was gonna buy some 2nd hand wheels but with the pain of finding the right fitment i opted for some new rims garanteed to fit paseo studs.

exhaust hole - I thought that looked to neat for a jigsaw/ cut hole thats ok then i will get a pen and my dremel and have a go

if you dont mind I will messege you again probaly everything i want to do you've been there and got the t-shirt - so good person to ask

have you thought about running a pc in your paseo - I have seen pc gps attachments for £20 for sat nav, and a a cheap 80gig hard drive would prob hold loads of tunes- then again if you got a dvd player i spose 1 dvd holds a fair few mp3s - comp can wait till next year though

Induction kit arrived today will fit at some point - its like a bug once u sttart moddin,

lookin forware to see your kit on - cheers for advice

Hey, welcome to TOC.

Regarding the springs I've got the Spax -40mm on mine and they're good – no scrubage at all. I've heard some people having problems with the Pi's, although I think they might give a better ride, Spax seem to be associated with a hard ride.

If you're changing your shocks I'd recommend getting uprated ones, I've just got around to putting some KYB Gas items on mine which has improved the ride and handling no end.

Exhaust wise I'm in the same boat – got a Powerflow backbox which sits under the standard bumper but I'm fed up with it so I'm getting something else – Jap-style with a bumper cut out and louder!

You know you want one like mine since you saw it a JAE Si :P

Welcome to the site by the way dorset

Any questions you have I'll be glad to help aswell :)

hi thanks for your welcomes

Matt you shouldnt of said that next time I attempt something you gonna be bombarded with emails asking for step by step instructions

No one seems to have a clue about these cars (shops etc) so i think I will take your lots advice and opt for the spax- yah! so later today quick ring around then I will order somewhere in the middle of cheapest / how soon they will arrive.

97 paseo my thing is a jap style exhaust - on low revs its quiet ish but when you rev it out gets !Removed! loud - if you do yours post to the board and i might have to hassle you for some pics & advice if you dont mind- - bit like the post on here about removing the orange lense from the repeater - a couple of photos and made me a bit braver in attempting it. have you got a link to your motor

Hi daz - ok mate if you dont mind first of all, checked out your garage link, sweet car by the way, are your springs any good & where did you get them (£56 sounds nice).

Does that hit shield help keep air cold/ run better or is it mostly cosmetic, and what sort of differance does your stut brace make? and lastly whats your snooper like whats its success rate and waht type of cameras

dont ask for much do I :D , cheers all

Most places will try and tell you it's an import because they think they know everything about cars – but then we like 'em because they're rare so guess you can't have it all ways!

We tend to share any info or suppliers we find to help each other which works quite nicely. :)

Click the car at the bottom of my post for the garage, you can view all of the TOC Paseo's in there. ;)

Strut brace is well worth it, really helps the handling, they're on eBay for £45 now as well.

I gave up trying to remove the orange from the lenses!

@ Daz – you're right - that's what I'm getting hopefully! :D

Posted

Actually mate took the heat shield off as wasn't happy how it looked, might get round to getting it put back on some time, got a few other bits to fit aswell just never seem to have the time :(

Snooper ain't bad for the money but nowhere near as effective as the £400 ones. Ok where I live though cos in Durham there's only one static camera it's mostly hand held they use and it picks them up! :P

And yes strut brace best money I ever spent

Soz to hi-jack this thread sam but Si and Daz,

Those strut braces you've fitted, are they really worth the money because after hearing about how they crack suspension turrets i was a bit worried about buying and fitting one, any comments greatfully received, thanks lads,

Matt

I think the car would need to be in a poor mechanical state for that to happen Matt

They really stiffen the handling, I have a Sparco rear to fit when I can be bothered ;)

Posted

Well worth the money Matt - get one!

Daz how much was that Sparco rear brace? I've been looking at the Whiteline one but haven't got a price on it yet.

Posted

Think it was less than 30 quid from memory as it's a universal one, just need a bigger hammer to fit it :D

 I see. I wish I had your skills with universal stuff! I'm useless!

When i start tarting up my engine bay i will invest in one as i fancy having a clean look like you under there daz!!!

Top work on your engine mate, it looks good!!

Cheers Matt, it helps when your mate powder coats thing for nowt

you lucky person you (saves having you lucky ******)

lol

To be fair that is true as the strut brace that cracked a suspension turret was on a nova that was seriously past it and was pushed 24/7.

I think i may have to look into strut braces again!!

How much would something like that cost then if i could find somewhere to do it Daz?? Soz im being annoying now arent i!!!

No need to apologise :D Well cost is about 50 quid from memory but easy enough to fit yourself in 10 mins

I know Si had a problem with his top strut mount having different holes or an extra one? Should be just a case of drilling a new hole in the brace though if that's the case and the OMP and Sparco ones are powdercoated red already, if you don't like that I'd say about 20 quid to get it coated at worst

hey ordered springs today, went with crappy motorworld direct but only coz they had them in stock, £98 delivered cheers for advice i went with the recommended spax ssx.

I will have to post somebefore an after pics for any1 else considering lowering

Yep two problems when I was fitting mine. One was the fact that my top strut only had three bolts through it with the fourth blanked so I had to get it drilled.

Second was relocating the alarm. The ST has a space but as the Si has all the ABS gubbins which makes it tricky. Check my garage pics and compare to Daz's to get a clearer idea.

Got it done cheers for recommending spax, to any one else considering lowering see pics before like a boat (with the wheels it went about 2 inches higher)

then after with springs (took pic just after fitting them they seem to have settled now 1- 2cm even lower than pic)

well worth doing
