Im looking for a Toyota Starlet Glanza and i have found a few in Ireland. Inorder to get it here would i need to SVA test it once in the UK or could i fly there and drive it back on "Q" plates. If i had to SVA test, roughly how much would i be looking at. Are there any other tests that need to be done?

Also, i remember someone mentioning that 98> galnz'a would not pass the sva test in the uk, is this true? All help really appreciated Toby

like shelly says best to ask an import dealer or someone who may of imported there own car from there.

The SVA docs will be with DVLA, it will be on their system saying the car is registered in the UK. So you won't be having the docs... just check and see if u need to SVA from ireland.

OK i got a reply, are you ready for this.... :

He can only bring in a '96 Glanza into the UK. The only way he can drive a 97-99 Glanza over here is if he retained the Irish registration/address etc. Needless to say he'd pay through the nose for insurance.

SVA for a '95-96 car will cost around £600 for conversions, booking the test, and the agent's charge for taking it to the test.

The car must be fairly standard.

Could take several weeks to get a test date so if he's buying a car it's best to send off for the test now. Costs £180 to book.

He will have to take the car to be tested and then have to re-book another test & pay £30 for the privilege. He'll also need a standard MOT as the car's over 3 years old.

Hope it helps toby

Hi Guys

I've imported my Glanza V through Bonsai cars there really good. I picked the car off the actions that Bonsai cars put up from Tuesday - Friday. 4pm -9pm are the times you can put in a bid.

My car is in Southampton just now waiting on it getting its SVA MOT and registration sorted should get her in 2 week fingers crossed.

My overall cost for the car, shipping, SVA MOT and registration was £5500 which was really good.

Any questions just ask.

Stu's one on eBay sounds a good one make him an offer on that mate as any that come over now will have to be totally standard

sorry to ask a stupid question, just curious...

Rich.

Toby I'm from N.Ireland. When we take a Glanza up from the south the test as far as I know is usually carried out and the cars are always fit for UK roads. I will confirm this though

Right confirmed it. All cars brought into the South(of Ireland) will have been SVA'd so if you are buying one check it has the certificate. It's just a case then of getting the car MOT'd and if you want re-registered and insure it. Thats what a couple of the boys who own them over here have said to me. The reason you need to MOT it is because in Ireland the car will have had an NCT test. Don't know what way it works having that in England but as far as i know the NCT test is a stricter test than your MOT. In saying that though the MOT's in N.Ireland are stricter than England Scotland and Wales.

Hope this helps mate.

cheers for your help guys. If i bought a sva'd car in souther ireland would i need to sva it again in the UK? Also theres another glanza on autotrader except it's a 97? It's not far from me but the ads sais it needs a mondel report and sva. How would it be possible to do this? All help appreciated tobs

Posted

you dont need an SVA in southern ireland, all it has to do is pass its NCT (same as MOT)

if you want to bring it to the UK it needs an SVA.

VOSA/DVLA/SVA wording is quite clear on this "vehicles FIRST REGISTERD outside the EU....." ie JAPAN require an SVA to be registered in Britain.
