Clunking In Engine?

Hey everyone, im new here and just thought I would check if anyone had an answer to the clunking in my Truck. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I have a 1994 Toyota pickup and everything has run GREAT untill about 3 weeks ago. It has about 133K miles on it and has started making a rather loud clunking noise when I make a turn going slow. If I yank the wheel it makes the noise aswell - and occassionally when I brake hard. It seems to be coming from right in front of the floor pedals because I can FEEL it in my feet when it hits. I really hope the front end isn't gonna drop out on me  . Does anyone have any solution or advice for this major prob? Thanks alot in advance to anyone who could hook me up!

hi mate,

Welcome to TOC.

from the description you gave it sounds like it could well be the CV joint on the end of the drive shaft. Easiest way to tell is to put the steering on full lock and select reverse. Back up slowly and if you hear the clunking noise then it's usually the CV joint. It's not a massive job, but it's an essential one because if it fails then you lose all drive to the wheel, leaving you stranded. Thankfully they always seem to give you a fair bit of warning before they fail.

Good Luck

Rich

Check all your spring mounts too, it might be you have some wear in a suspension joint that is allowing the axle to float slightly relative to the body.
