Hi

I have found these Crystal Headlamps on eBay and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Do you think they are worth it for the money. They look very smart on the picture. Is changing the headlight unit a simple job for someone with minimal experience.

Here is a link to the item

Fitted the lights today and I'm very impressed with the finished look, had a few fitting niggles but nothing too serious.

Main headlamps are basically a direct swap with the standard lights and a very good copy of the factory ones, side lights which are now indicators have some inconsistencies with regards fitting against the bodywork, but make a reasonable fit.

I have contacted the seller with regards selling on the TOC and mentioned you Dawesy as I know you want a set :)

I'll post up some pics in daylight tomorrow, overall it's freshened up the front end and has almost made the car look newer replacing in what my opinion are aged lights! Certainly worth the money considering your getting 2 main lights and 2 side lights.

Kev

Are the old indicators completely redundant now? I like the way my indicators are seperated off from the headlights and lower down in the bumper, but I'd love the look of the headlights :)

Is it possible to shove it on and wire up extra sidelights where the new indicator ones would go? So I'd keep the standard sidelight position & also have 2 more sidelights in the main headlight. I really love having my indicators away from the headlights hehe :D

PICCIES!!! :D

Yes, they do render the bumper indicators redundant. You can leave the new indicators nonfunctional, or it's possible to do as you say... you have to be careful when doing it, because the bulbs corner lamps are of the 7440 variety, which looks like a scaled-up W5W. They are a full 18 watts, which means you can have problems with them melting a hole in the lens from all the heat if on constantly. Another option is to convert it using 7443 bulbs, which are dual filament like a P21/5W, but in the 7440 size... and leave the high watt filament nonfunctional.

My friend wired them up as they are supposed to be, and has his bumper indicators constant-on with a switch, as many vehicles do here in the U.S. and Canada for daytime running lamps.

Here is a picture I found of a car with these headlamps.

Can't wait to see Kev's pictures.

There is another set on eBay at the moment.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=4513248888

The US sets seem to have two separate reflectors for high beam and low beam, and all the UK cars have single reflector headlamps, so I guess US imports would not be good, apart from the fact that they would point to the opposite side of the road.

Actually, that set is the same as the ones Kev got... yes, we have HB3 and HB4 bulbs for separate main and dipped beams. That set is made for RHD cars, and would really be illegal to use here, but so are my standard UK headlights and parking lights! No less safe than everyone driving around with blue tinted bulbs (no, thanks)... I'll shut up now...

I have a bit more info about them and when work calms down will post some photo's of them and write a little more about them.

They project the light soo much brighter and look very classy when on at night :)

I have had some problems with the side lights leaking in water, hence they aren't on when I've taken the photo's today. The main headlights are a very good copy of the factory ones which is shown in the quality and fit, however the side lights are a very poor design and fit.

They aren't quite straight forward to fit and need a few alterations along the way, but nothing too major and the following needs to be done and people need to be aware of.

1. If you choose to have the indicators in the side lights as shown in the pics above you'll need to get the bulb holder changed as mentioned by REDAE102.

2. the side lights are now in the main headlight which can be seen on the pics below, you'll need to cut the wires, solder them together as they don't fit to begin with.

3. When replacing the grille, the holes don't line up with the new headlights, so the only way round it, is to use cable ties.

4. The headlights don't have the electric adjustment like the factory fitted ones do.

Overall I think there still good value for money and I'll take some pics with the lights on to show how they look on, the project the light soo much clearer and brighter then before.

and the pics..............

I think they look ok without the side lights as they have the orange part which would have been better to have removed and silver vision philips bulbs in that flash orange.
