Daihatsu Sirion

How the hell does the Daihatsu Sirion develop 105bhp from it's 1.3? It's the same engine that's used in the Yaris... what have they done to it to get that power? It does 0-60mph in 8.0sec. I wouldn't mind that!

If it can be done to that car, surely it can be done to the Yaris??!!

Spec is the same... twin overhead cams, 4cyl in-line, etc. And the weight is about 10kg difference. But even the heavier Sirion's are quicker. The one i'm talking about is their 'Rally2' spec car, but the standard 1.3 does 0-60mph in 9.5sec and has 100bhp. I don't know what they're doing to that engine, but i want it!!

It's becuase they are *NOT* the same engines!

Yves.

What's difference??

When i was at Motorshow a few years back My dad (who was thinking of new car at time) spoke to somebody on the Diahatsu stand who said it was the same engne, but had been re-tuned to deliver more power.

Do you mean between the 2NZ-FE, 2SZ-FE and the K3-VE(T)? We've had this discussion before.

Just looking at the short block castings will tell you that these are designed completely different.

Put a pre-facelift 1.3 Yaris, a facelift Yaris and a Toyota Cami/Daihatsu Whatever mini-SUV next to oneanother and see the difference.

Guys its the same engine. If you read the specs of the 2 engines you will see that :bookworm: .i've asked a daihatsu mechanic and he told me that they use a different crankshaft and a new program. So the compression is 11:1 instead for us having 10:1.if you consider doing that you shouldn't forget that we have chain and that it will need to be changed.the price for the crankshaft is just 37€.

That sounds more do-able! Why would the chain need changing?

because if you use a different crankshaft its going to have less hight than the 1 u have now.so the chain will not fit right.u always have the possibility to fix the one u are using.the main point is that with 1000€ or less u can have 15-20 hp more.

You talking about the cam chain?

and seveer it doesn't have to cost 2k. so far ive spent £155 and i dont intend to spend more than 300.

But you got lucky didn't you? Plus, you seem to be mechanically minded and able... im minded, but not able in the slightest, so i'd be looking at lot to get one bought, fitted and working!

The 1000€ seems fairly reasonable (about £600) but it sounds like a lot of work!
