Power Steering Maladies

I have owned my '99 Avensis 2.0 CDX since new and it is just about the do a 100,000 miles, and nothing has ever gone wrong with it so have never ventured onto these pages, however this afternoon turning into the office car park, the steering assistance seemed to disappear as though the car had stalled , which it hadnt.. it then continued to "stick" as i turned it lock to lock whilst stationary with the engine running.

Upon checking the PAS fluid - no problems, auxillary drive belt tension - seems okay and has recently been changed (last 12 months.)

anyone experienced this symptom before ?? i have read a few posts of grease drying out on steering joints and seals on PAS racks going, so any help much appreciated.

I can honestely say that this has been the most reliable car i have ever owned and i have had a string of Volkswagens, Audis, Volvo's and Vectra's (company car days - terrible device!)

thanks in advance - TONY

Mine feels heavier sometimes to others but not gone completely. I did read somewhere that that the pumps are prone to go on the pre-facelift old Avensis' though.

if i turn the whell so fast for like 2 minutes(ex: when trying to get out from a very full parking lot) the wheel hardens then softens again... but i guess i the steering of the new avensis is electric powered...
