Well folks its coming close to that time of year (Well that and the fact i've done nearly 5000miles) for a service.... My car has done around 54000 miles (84000km) and im looking to give it the WORKS!!!

So my list so far is...

1. Oil Filter

2. Oil

3. Fuel Filter

4. Plugs

5. Leads

6. New Pads ALL ROUND

7. Flush Rad

It had its timing belt done last Jan (apx. 5000miles) so its good :)

Does this sound enough? This will be its first BIG service since coming into the country. Was gonna use Catrol GTX Magnitec 10w/40w oil? Any other you may suggest?

Also WHERE THE **** CAN I GET PARTS  My local toyota dealer said they wanted £35 for the rear pads alone....so for all that im guessing.....£££££££ :?

Any help would be great!

Sounds a good idea to me mate yes thats about right for the rear pads but do they really need doing? Also i would go to your local motor factors formost parts the glanza oil filter is the same as the UK 4EFE engined starlet, leads i would get magnecours from toyotasera (Andrew) on this board and plugs i would be getting NGK BKR7EVX's

Right so the oil Filter is the same as the SR? so Partco, TMS, Moterfactors kinda places will stock it...what about Fuel Filter?

Will PM Andrew when I get a chance...or maybe he'll see this post :D

Pads I wanna make sure...can hear a funny grinding noise. (fronts I think are fine :) )

CHeers for the Info on the Plugs :) I guess i just ask for them and they'll give me them :)

thats really useful info as im thinkin of doin mine also in the new year the fuel filter on the glanza can be awkward i had mine done a few weeks back with my adjustable fuel reg and partco needed 3 attempts to get it right if i can find the box ill post the part number up for u. im also lookin at needin new disks to go with my new pads any suggestions?

I would say if your car is parked outside at nights to get Mobil 1 0w40, for the simple reasons:

a) its thin so the car starts up fast

B) lubricates your turbo quickly.

Castrol will take a while to get runny.

for fuel filters, i used a fram one, i think they are all the same because it said fits starlet, glanza etc on the box.

:D I would recommend a TOYOTA OIL FILTER the none return valve inside the filter is of top quality ---other makes are usally substanded YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ! I would also recommend SEMI OR FULL SYN - THETIC OIL YOU PAY MORE!! BUT PAYS FOR ITS- SELF IN THE LONG RUN  YOU MAKES YOUR CHOICE

What colour do the leads come in Andrew?

Posted

I can get leads in three colours and sizes.

7.0mm in black

8.0mm in blue

8.5mm in red

TRD's uprated leads are 5.0mm red. Most people go for the blue and that's what I priced earlier in the list.

Was looking to get Blue ones anyway.......kinda got a Blue and White thing going on ;) what does the size difference do?

do the fuel filter when your doing the downpipe, will be easy with all that stuff out the way.

everything else is pretty easy to get hold of.

Well im gonna take some pics when doing my service to allow all the other Starlet Owners to see where bits are and how I got bits off  :)

The timing belt interval is 100,000km which is about 60,000 miles.

However rubber has a shelf life, and is in tension all the time and can take a permanent set, so if there is no evidence of when it was last done, get it changed and keep a record of when.

This is for peace of mind, and keeping a note would benefit future owners.
