Radio Crackle - Not Finding Stations

Hi guys - new to your site

My problem is not being able to receive a signal - radio searches but doesn't find stations

- I've been off the road for a few months and Battery went completely flat - could that be it????

Or

Some thieving toe rag nicked my keys and had to have new locks, ECU, the whole shebang replaced - could the spanner man have removed/disconnected the ariel perhaps???

Or

Am i barking the wrong tree on both accounts?

Been driving my missus A Class Merc and glad to be back in my toyota after 5months but listening to the radio is necessity!

Replies gatefully received

Regards

Sean

If the locks have been changed including the ignition, then they more than likely had to gain access behind the dash. A lot of stereos have dodgy arial connectors anyway - so it's likely the connector has just fallen off the back of the head unit or was "forgotten" to be put back on.

Thanks for that - how would I check [i doubt Dealer will do anything 5months later]

Where can I get access to 'rear of radio' or wherever the aerial would be attached in these non Din radios?

Depends on the head unit. Normally you would need a set of special removal keys unique to the type or manufacturer of the head unit (either supplied with the car or available from Halfords). Use the keys to remove the head unit and you sould see an RF type connector on the back of the H/U. Find the offending cable lying loose behind where the stereo sits and re-fit. Push H/U back into place making sure you don't trap cables.

If you are unsure take the car to your local Halfords and they should have a fitter who will be able to sort it quite quickly for about £40.00.

This is the problem :crybaby: I am having there is no head unit - it is one of the newer type ie built in to dash radios

Not a problem - this is what most people think. Either there will be four holes to remove a section of the centre console to remove the stereo or the centre console comes apart byt removing some screws and clips exposing how the stereo is fitted.

Take it to your local Halfords/I.C.E specialist - they'll be able to look/sort it out easily

No screws anywhere!!!!!!!!!!! This is a 2001 model and the radio is part of the dash board - there must be a way of removing it but I can't see how.

hi,

to get the stereo out- you have to remove the center air-vents. these just pull out(with some force). then you will need a 10mm socket, extention and ratchet because the two bolts that hold the stereo in place are either side of the vents.

be carefull not to drop the bolts once removed.

when you have taken both bolts out the stereo will come out from the top.

good luck and i hope this helps.

Sounds like you know what you are talking about - is it likely the ariel could have become dislodged whilst replacing ECU or other bits?????
