Central Locking

Hi. My Avensis has started unlocking itself. The car can be locked with the key fob or the door lock. The central locking system randomly triggers the unlock solenoids every few minutes, sometimes every few seconds, it’s totally random. To stop this so I can leave the car locked I have removed the DOME fuse, but even with this fuse removed when the ignition is turned on the random unlocking will start again. Any ideas were to look for the problem.

Regards Bill

Hi,

I have a quite opposite problem with my '01 VVT Avensis.

It tries to lock doors even when they are locked!

When I unlock doors, it locks the doors almost immediately, but when I quickly open door and start engine it stops trying to lock doors.

I have checked a fuse under instrument panel (30A) and it was ok.

What else I could check before I take it to dealer?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Kent

Had the very same problem this time last year. Started when it was extremely cold. The problem eventually settled down so that I was able to lock the car with the key and unlock it with the key fob.

However suddenly in the middle of the summer it righted itself and has been perfect ever since?

I took it to the dealer all they could suggest was to change all the locks at a cost of about £600. No way.

In my opinion my trouble was caused by condensation in the door lock.

Best of luck
