Hi,

I need help my 1992 paseo has been in the shop for almost a week and the mechanic can't find the problem. The water pump was replaced a week ago and the next day the idling speed started jumping between 1000 and 3000 within seconds, while I was driving, of each of other. The Toyota dealership said that it could be the throttle body or that the antifreeze line has air in it. The mechanic has assured me that the antifreeze line has no air in it (he has always been reliable). Has anyone experienced something like this before? Does anyone know if there are any sensors that could cause this problem?

Thanks, jik

sorry to hear mate,

i've had similar troubles before though mine only reached 1500rpm not 3000 like yours,

the solution (or cause rather) to my problem was that i had dirty muck all around my throttle lines and they didn't release properly everytime, and hence it would not idle at the right (800) rpm, could be somehting as simple as this so good luck!

Thanks for your info. I've been submersed in holidays! My mechanic has been checking some sensors, with no go, so we're ready to ship it to the toyota dealership (probably charge way too much). I'll have him check the throttle lines and hopefully there is something there! I've also discovered trouble code detection for the paseo and I'll check with the mechanic to see if knows how to do it. I got the website from a message on the forum. So I went to http://www.troublecodes.net/Toyota/ and found the way to test the codes for a problem on my '92 paseo. I'm going to have the mechanic try both ideas! Thanks!
