Noise Coming From Offside

Hi all.

I think my wheel bearing may well need replacing, when I turn the steering wheel over to the right I can hear a creaking noise coming from around the passenger side front alloy.

I can hear the noise almost all of the time and I would say it's progessively getting more noticable in the last few days

I did read somewhere that someone had 17's on a E10 1995 and havd suspension problems, It was posted in the Corolla forum a while ago, I hope I'm not having similiar problems.

Service and MOT is due begnining of January, so I'll get the garage to have a look, but can anyone confirm my thoughts or suggest anything else that it could be?

thanks

Kev

a wheel bearing should make a loud drumming noise at certain speeds , a creaking sound to me suggests a ball joint , try going around a roundabout keeping that wheel under full load if it creaks like hell and knocks its defo a ball joint , possibly a worn trackrod end.

hmm ok, well now you mention it this week I have noticed a loud drumming noise at speeds above 60mph that comes and goes and I think it's also related to the passenger side.

My parnter and I are going away for new year down to cambridge, which will most certainly include a motorway journey, will the car be ok to do such a journey? as I doubt I can get it booked in this time of year before we go on the 29th.

thanks for the advice

Kev :)

if it drums at 60 all the time and i mean all the time then goes off at say 67 then yes deffo a wheel bearing, yes it will be ok to drive the car , a bearing can hum some thousands of miles and becomes excessively noisy when its life is about up.

  • 2 weeks later...

Typical, had it booked into the garage today and the noise decided not to show.

It has been making the noise all weekend constantly and today decides not to show, The garage checked out the wheel bearing and that doesn't need replacing and couldn't find anything in need of repair or replacing. Checked the ball joint over as well.

I'm going to take it back up when the noise decides to show up again, lol make me look stupid, but the noise got considerably more noticable while we where away.
