Camry Engines

I recently bought a used 2002 Camry LE. The sticker and dealer said it was a V6. I didn't think much of it. It seems to have better pick-up than my Olds that I own. However, I am starting to believe that I actually purchased a 4 cyl. The engine say VVTi on it. Is there any way, or place, that I can check for a definite answer. Is there a VVTi 6 cyl?

Thanks,

T-Man

ok first i dont think the dealer would place a v6 sticker . i think is obvious because your engine is more bigger.

look at your exhaust manifold, check the number of tubes coming off, if they are coming off on both sides of the engine then its a v6, you know cuz a v6 is spred out like a V with 3 cylinders on each v, if its a 4 banger than its a strait four and its all in one line with one exhaust mani

Thanks for the info. guys. I actually brought it to a mechanic to confirm my suspensions...

Sorry Diablo, it is a 4cyl that had a 6cyl. sticker.

In that case I'd be heading straight back to the dealer....

I'm guessing the reciept has the model written on it and if he has sold you a 4 rather and v6 has sold you an item under false pretense.....

this i have heard a few times before... find out the engine was totally wrong size.

Very doubtfull its the dealers fault (although yes you can claim)

Toyota make cars to order and not make them hoping they will sell. I would imagine the factory made the mistake with the sticker.

I have informed the dealership and they said they would "take care of me". The papers/contracts state it is a 6 cyl. I actually like the car and want to keep it. Is it fair to ask for compensation? Maybe the difference in retail value between the 4 cyl and the 6cyl? I think I was actually charged for a 4cyl and not a 6cyl. What are your thoughts? Thanks

I am pretty sure it was the dealers fault. It is a used car and it was advertised using the dealers sticker. It is a well known used car dealership.
