:o My wife has a 1.6 exec auto and it has the most niggling fault. :crybaby

The car has only done a sensible 61 k and ran well up to 2 weeks before xmas :censor: TYPICAL.

After a full service to try to resolve the problems i was advised a replacement carb was needed. :(

Put a good carb on (from scrapper) and it ran better however didnt resolve the problem 100 %. :censor:

The car starts ok and runs great on motorway, but as soon as its in traffic its hell. When accelerating at setting off from a standstill the car BURBLES as though its fuel starved or flooded. Take your foot of the accelerator and then try again its ok. Also same thing happens when you leave it in gear if in traffic then go to start off.

Anyone had any similar probs or ideas because im just about to eat my haynes manual :unsure:

having changed the carb , you would of thought it would clear , sounds to me if there is a lift pump ( mechanical fuel pump ) it may be clogged at the valve that was on vauxhalls if ones fitted that controlls fuel flow back to the tank.as it would cause the carb to flood on tickover, we used to take it off and re route the fuel pipes

I used to have an early 80's VW Polo which did the same. It took us ages to work it out.

In the end it was a bad eart conection.

When I gave it gas the engine would tilt back and break the earth connection, which made it stall, the engine then dropped forward making the connection again which in turn started the cycle again with the engine tilting back.

You never know check that, you dont want to pay a tuning garage to clean and tighten a bolt on a earth strap
