Cd Player For Yaris

I have just bought an 2001 Yaris which does not come with a CD player. I went to Halfords and they advised me that I must go to a Toyota dealership in order to get a cd player which will cost me £300. Can anyone confirm if this is true.

Well i dont think it will be far off that either. You best try the "For Sale" section of the forum or even try eBay. I seen them go on eBay for as little 70 quid!

If you go to toyota, you'll pay a hell of a lot. Get a decent after market headunit and follow the how to's to install it

im kinda having the same problem, except mines a 99 yaris. but what if i was to buy a cd player from Halfords which came with FREE FITTING, would they still go ahead and do it for me or not? i was thinking of getting this one..

http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_detail...7&type=3&cat=33

or this one

http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_detail...9&type=3&cat=33

both come with free fitting. so would they do it for me or not?

cheers guys! sorry if it seems like a stupid question but i dont know much anyway! lol

I think instaling a headunit in a yaris is over the people at Halfords heads from what i've understood on here. Seriously, you should give it a shot yourself, you should be able to fit it without any probs, either in the coin slot, or by getting a new facia. And why do you want to get one from Halfords so much? there are plenty of decent on line stores that sell headunits, and many are cheaper than Halfords. I believe thta www.caraudiosecurity.com is one of the better sites. Good luck!

I take it your looking for an aftermarket HU then. I thought you wanted the toyota cd player. If you want to buy it from Halfords, im sure they could tell you before hand whether or not it will fit. Plus, like keeperofthegate mentioned, you would also need to get the fascia surround and iso lead for the after market one.

And Halfords won't do that! Seriously, so many people have been there and they've either said they can't do it or you have to go to toyota and pay a bomb for one. It won't take you more than an hour to install a new headunit

Although Halfords say 'Free Fitting' there's probably a little asterix *

*Free Fitting does not include ISO leads, or any additional parts, nor does it include fitting to anything remotely Japanese..

There are some usefull people @ Halfrauds..

Buy all the gear and fit it yourself.. There's plenty of info at hand and people allways online to answer any q's.. You'll feel much better knowing you've done it all yourself too

just in the same situation, fancying a cd player or changer in the car so a have had a look round n seen a few good ens like n just wen a was in Halfords at the time a asked whether they wud do it n they reckon that there is no room to fit one without a new facsia n they dont do them ones, they also reckon they dont fit in the cash slot so Halfords pretty much do yaris's.so is it gonna b better to just fit n leave the intergrated radio in the dash with the cd below or take it al out n look for a new fascia?n does anyone no if there is players that dont fit in the cash slot?

cheers :arrgg-matey:

Hi, I just bought my Yaris yesterday. Its a 99 model and doesn't have a CD player. My first car and I am technophobic! I read all these memos but I don't know what Halford's is. Im living in Ireland so maybe that's why. If I buy any head unit will they all fit in that space under the tape deck or does anyone know a specific size I should be looking for? Also which brands are better quality without being too expensive? Thanks for your help!!

Hello!

I have a 2001 yaris and am desparate for a cd player! Am I right in thinking that any CD player can just be fitted into the cubby hole below the tape player?

I have bought a Sony CD player from Halfords (they told me it would fit in the Yaris).

Now I am trying to arrange for the free fitting they are saying it is impossible. I have called several stores and taken it into one, and they say the cage will not seat properly in the spare "coin slot" and will be loose or extend outwards.

I notice from the link posted above, the picture shows the CD player at an angle. Is this because it isn't seated properly, or is that CD player designed to be at an angle?

I am very confused as to whether to just return the CD player and make do with a tape deck (and a radio that doesn't actually work because the tuner is faulty) or persue trying to get this fitted.

Can anyone provide a definate answer as to whether a CD player can be fitted *properly* onto the coin slot of a Yaris? I have this feeling that it can but everyone at Halfords is saying it can't (even the company they use for mobile fitting).

Cheers,

Gaz

They told a half-lie..

I wasn't pleased when I tried this, looked well tacky so I went the whole hog instead..

Design feature of the Unit

Yes it can be fitted *properly* but not into the coin slot (see Link) this will add an extra £90ish to the install..

Thanks for your quick reply Chappers. When you say you went the whole hog, do you mean you had it fitted properly using a new facsia? What didn't you like about the coin slot method?

Halfords have told me you cannot get the facsia for a Yaris. Yet more lies?

I am not very good with DIY and do not really have the time, would I be better getting a refund and buying a unit from a specialist car audio shop and getting them to sort it?

Thanks for your help, it is the little things in life which cause me so much stress :ffs:

If you don't want to go to the trouble.. for want of another description.. do what i did, i got myself an FM modulator 10 disc MP3 player, it sits nicely in the boot, and it works through a radio station on your excisting setup.

Took the Yaris to Halfrauds today and saw someone this time that actually knew what they were doing. They fitted the stereo in the spare coin slot in under 15 minutes.

Thanks to Chappers and Dicey for their help and encouragement (I was getting to the point where I was going to get a refund for the CD player and not bother).
