Cd Player For Yaris

Took the Yaris to Halfrauds today and saw someone this time that actually knew what they were doing.  They fitted the stereo in the spare coin slot in under 15 minutes.

Thanks to Chappers and Dicey for their help and encouragement (I was getting to the point where I was going to get a refund for the CD player and not bother).

 Coolio..

Just in time for summer (maybe, if it comes this year!)

And halfords won't do that! Seriously, so many people have been there and they've either said they can't do it or you have to go to toyota and pay a bomb for one. It won't take you more than an hour to install a new headunit

There are some that are willing to have a go, some guy PM'd me and said he was taking his bird's yaris to have an Aftermarket HU fitted and they did it, but only in the coin box under the stock radio.

I am looking for one and I found:

More info on:

What I hadn't found is a seller in Europe.

You could get a much better aftermarket for that money!

Yes, but it means disabling the original radio, and I don't want to.

IF you take the oringal out, then yes you will have no radio as it built into yur tape player, your best to tkae that out and replce with an aftermarket one, geting fascia, din adapter etc, i did it last weekend its great.

But when you get an aftermarket cd player it comes with a radio etc, and you can still use your trip, time screen thingy too.

Don't let these people sway you! Iv got standard headunit, subwoofer, very nice Speakers and 2000 tracks at my fingertips down to the wonders of MP3!

Standard headunit is fine, so long as you couple it with the right components!

Hello!

I have a 2001 yaris and am desparate for a cd player! Am I right in thinking that any CD player can just be fitted into the cubby hole below the tape player?

If you want to fit a head unit into the cubby hole you will have to be sure that it's front panel surround is either small or removable. I tried a Sony CDXS200 and it fitted perfectly but the Pioneer DEH1730 does not have a removable and cannot be fitted. If you are looking for cable adapter at a good price it's worth looking on eBay, I bought one for £5.

That it maybe... but's it's still pretty damned loud from where i sit! With absolutley NO vibration's (except on a couple of tracks on Em's new Encore album ... mega bass levels) rattles or distortion. Plus... i get all the sweet vibes coming through my seat... it works absolutley superb on the Fluke track; Absurd. ***** vibrations galore!

Welcome fellow Oxfordshire person!

Thank you Gnome!

I see you have a Sony CDXS2000, do you have any problems with hiss when playing CD's with the mid-range setting on the equaliser boosted. I had one of these units but sent it back becuase of this. I now have a Pioneer but have had to go down the costly route of facia adapters and a Toyota surround becuse it did not fit in the coin tray!

Not noticed anything as of yet. It's been in for 2 weeks now, but I've only got the standard front 2 Speakers, so they may be too "quiet" to pick anything up.

TBH, I haven't even bothered to change the settings on the Sony either.

I just stick the CD in, turn it upto 20, roll down the windows, and cruise for hunnies....

PMSL....

Do the volume numbers mean anything? Like across ranges?

I always use 20... but its been upto 24 recently. If I were listening to Prodidgy I would be death at 24 with more than 5mins exposure!

Think the sony goes upto 30 or summit, but at 25 I can't hear the engine running, even with the windows down...

I can never hear my engine below 15... I rest my case.

Think mine might go upto 40. But never gone past 25.

  • 3 months later...

Those ipod adapters are rip offs! im sure you can do it a much cheaper way. some aftermarket headunits have RCA inputs and you can buy a cheap RCA cable to 3.5mm jack and that way you can plug straight into the back of the headunit and use the ipod as the controls. I think even a connects2 adapter can be used! but if you want the flashy control through your headunit you will have to decide what head unit you will buy and then buy a matching ipod adapter.

most cd players fit in the cash slot with ease and wiring is a doddle too!

Ummm... just joined this forum to try to contact you. Having a lot of trouble making sense of the cd issue and I'm about to spend £300 that I can't afford to get a cd player in my 02 Yaris. Help!

PM me if you need help. ANY head unit can go in the Yaris, and there are NO problems. Do NOT believe Halfords and do NOT buy the Toyota head unit!

Hello Gnome

I recently bought an 02 Yaris. Like the car. It has a cassette slot and am/fm radio below it. The hole below the radio presets looks like it will take a cd player, but two different car audio specialista have told me that I need to get the cd supplied by Toyota, which will cost £275 installed. I thought the players and slots were universal. Seems a lot of money. One dealer had a Sony cd on special (the sign said fits all models) but it appears to be just to big for the slot. I have come up with one ot two altenative plans but they are unsatisfactory. I just want a cd player that is mounted (not floating around in the car) added to the system. Not sure why it is so difficult and/or expensive. Any advice is gratefully received.
