I'm told that if I do that I will lose use of the display... clock, temp, etc. True?

most cd players fit in the cash slot with ease and wiring is a doddle too!

Ummm... just joined this forum to try to contact you. Having a lot of trouble making sense of the cd issue and I'm about to spend £300 that I can't afford to get a cd player in my 02 Yaris. Help!

the only things on the display you will lose (naturally, of course) are the controls for your factory fitted system...(because it wont be there any more). you will still be able to see the time, check your average MPG consumption, etc - but you wont be able to use the AM/FM button, or turn the volume up etc (oh yeah, keep that volume knob pressed IN, apparently it adds 5bhp! lol)

hope this helps!

As said above. The little LCD display will still show, it just won't show AM/FM and tape settings anymore, as your chosen headunit (CD player), will do all that for you.

As Ryan said, go into the Yaris forum, and there's "how to" guide on what's needed, and what you've got to do.

In brief, you can either stick it in the coin tray (the slot below your current tape player), or get a surround from Toyota, and put a new headunit in (as shown in How to guides).

I've gone with the 2nd option, and got the ISO adapter, fascia surround from Toyota, and one from Audioleads, and fitted it myself, as it really is a doddle!

i wanted to go for the second option but deicded against it because when i have some of my dumbass friends in the car, they still think i can play both cassette and cd/mp3/wma too! lol

saw this guy in an A4 yesterday, i was next to him at the lights, he had a tv/dvd player in there and it looked sweet!

Tapes?!?!?

I don't have any, so thought "funk it," and just put the CD player in! :D

Been going down the M40, and see a people carrier with the TV's in the headrests, with the kids in the back watching spongebob squarepants the movie. Tailed him for a few miles so I could watch as well.... :D

As people have already said. It is quite easy to change the head unit on the Yaris as i found out a few weeks ago.

All you need is a new cd/mp3 head unit and an ISO adaptor (lead) and it should fit straight into the black tray below the tape deck. If for any reason it doesnt or you're not liking how it looks, then you can get the whole lot done like i did.

Finally got some head

As you can see it looks smart and sexy! :D

Doing it this way will cost you an extra £55. That is, £35 for the fascia surround from Toyota and £20 for the Autoleads double din adaptor (the black tray section) from an online store. The ISO lead you can get for £5 on eBay!

So that's £60 plus the head unit .. or £5 plus the head unit.

Hope this clear things up.

I've got a T2, which will be the P3 version of yours - no central locking, electric windows, tape player, etc....

I can live without electric windows and central locking, but I MUST have a CD player in there!!!

Ok, I like your 2nd option. The two dealers in my area are unaware of the facia surround you mention. Do you have a part number?

Not off the top of my head, but if you look in the "How To" section, it's listed.

It's a "Double-din" unit from Audioleads, for a Toyota Rav 4.
