:help: Hi peeps, would like to start by sayin Happy New Year 2 All.

My first post so I hope it ends up in the right place, anyway I got a Corolla Gti AE92 and i'm looking for rear lights for it, i'm sure I saw a gti with lexus lights at 1 of the show's last year, it may have been Santa Pod, any idea's on whats on the market for these cars?

Thanks in advance

Yasin

Hi mate, welcome to TOC.

http://www.fensport.com/ do some clear rear clusters. If you've seen Lexus style ones then the chances are they are from http://www.autostyle.co.za/index800.htm in South Africa (the GTI is called the Tazz out there). Good luck trying to get them to post some to you. They don't like doing it. Your best bet would be to wait until someone from TOC to go to SA.

if they're the same as mine dont bother they're crap. you need to use LED stop and tail bulbs as the red filter melts with std bulbs and ive just noticed the lens has come away form the back and leaks

The problem of leaking 'lexus' lights now that they've been out for a while is getting a very common problem amongst 'customisers'. Another problem is the quality of the 'silvering'/refective material flaking off inside. As for dawsey's problem of normal bulbs melting the red filter, this wouldn't supprise me due to the poor quality of the lamps that i've seen in places such as Halfords (dawsey: I'm not suggesting for one minute you shop at Halfords).

I have heard that some 'Lexus lights' are 'E' marked (European Compliant ...as per the 'stamp/sign' on your normal light lens, mirrors, windows etc.) and these have been of better quality.

Has anybody any experiance of 'E' marked versions?

Of all the lights i've seen for the GTi (Tazz/Conquest/FX-16) those 'clear' ones that arent actually clear appear to be the worst of the lot.

After 3 years my semi clears have started to fill with water :( i dont think anyone has had the Lexus style lights i bought back from SA on their car long enough to have noticed anything yet but i'd be interested to hear about them.

might have some new stuff arriving in June/july possibly, but no promises as the inlaws are coming to the UK rather than us going to SA this year :(

hiya bro,

you can get the clears for 99.99 from www.m8auto-tec.co.uk

or you can get them from passionmotorsport.co.uk for 115.00 including delivery

or you can pay fensport at www.fensport.co.uk around 135.00 all in (not wise)

cheers bro

Cheers guys. Also another thing you could help me with i'm looking to do an engine conversion and have been looking at the 4a-gze and the 3s-gte, but have my heart set on the 3S-GTE as it's been my dream since I had my first Gti, but i'm not 15 anymore and i'm power hungy!! I understand the 3S is more of a difficult task compared to the 4A-GZE and wanted to know what type of mods are involved to drop the 3S into my AE92? I've done straight replacement engines on a corolla gti and an impreza and was thinking of doing the conversion myself + my mate (He's a top mechanic), but with the conversion we need further assistance in understanding how the block will drop in!?!

But at the same time I gotta stick to a budget on the engine bay! Thats why I looked at the 4A-GZE aswell, any idea's on conversion cost's on both the 4A-GZE and 3S-GTE if done by some1 else?

Nice 1 :D

feel free to get me on msn if you want to talk about it.

as for cost check out my garage lol. for a 3S conversion you will really need to set aside at least 5 grand this should cover items like brake upgrade (essential), exhaust (3" stainless system custom made) and buying an engine complete with loom and ecu gearbox driveshafts etc.

it isnt that big a job if you are competant in welding , automotive electrics and basic engineering. as i say feel free to chat.

msn addy is lee.dawes@ntlworld.com

The only Lexus style lights that are any good are actual Lexus lights built for Lexus cars.

IMO people fitting Lexus/Altezza/Clear (whatever you want to call them) lights to their cars fit into the same category LED washer jets. It's chavish and looks crap

Of course these are my opinions which I am entitled to - I don't mean to offend. Other people are entitled to their chavish opinions too :D

I gotta agree these lexus style or clear lights dont really look good, bad enough on modern cars but on old cars like peugeot 205, mk2 VW golf is like 2 different worlds. 80s cars + lexus lights = dont mix at all! considering the is200 came out towards the millenium! no disrespect!

i didnt know is bad in quality with silver flaking off & filters melting, i know most of them i seen are yellow or water/mist inside or even both, terrible!

i'm not so sure, i reckon it all comes down to the cars paint colour.....

on blue, black, white and dark green cars they look good, on anything else they just look 'bolt on' if you get my drift....

Clear lights ...I can remember when it was fashion to have 'Smoked' or blacked out lenses.

People used to spray tinting material on rear lenses and fit Headlamp shades on the front (Headlamp Shades were black covers for daytime use only usually bought from Fibresports in Essex or Ripspeed in North London; this was when Ripspeed were nothing to do with Halfords.)

Must be 10 - 15 years ago when this was the rage for I too fitted Headlamp shades to my Escort

Escort.jpg

Please try not to laugh to much for I was only 18 at the time  (Older members may notice another 80's accessory, the colour co-ordinated windscreen 'wiper boots')

I still hadn't fitted my 'Hella Comet 550' Fogs below the bumper yet but did soon after picture was taken  (About the same time I fitted 'Cibie Oscars' to my Mini Clubman :!Removed!: ).

Ah memories...

...best forgotten? <_<

Let the good times roll.
