does anybody know how rare these motors actually are?.....I was told that there was only 1000 of the mr2 beams model made and only 200 of the celica beams made ever!!. I'd like to think they are that rare cos I have one but sounds a bit far fetched to me.

Anyone know for sure?

it says this is a 2.0 vvti red top engine

i cannot think of any other toyotas in the uk with this engine so would the cost of repairs be expensive?

I am pretty sure the red top beams (the celica and mr2 one) is vvti on the intake only. The black top beams (fitted to late altezza) is vvti on both cams.

Red top beams is 200 bhp, black top is 210 bhp.

The main difference between the beams and the 'normal' 3s-ge is the camshafts/vvti mechanism. The bottom end should be the same, the head is probably very similar, maybe interchangable. Compression is higher on the beams (different pistons?), so it really needs super unleaded petrol as a minimum, octane booster would be better.

The ECU is totally different, and probably the harness as well. It may have advanced knock control, so there could be more sensors on the block as well.

I think the gearbox internals may be different to other celicas, and the beams SS3 has an LSD as well.

All lot of parts are the same as other celicas, but I suspect that if you need parts that are SS3 specific, it could get expensive.
