Avensis Gearbox Life

Hi My 2000 Avensis 1.8 CDX has just required a new gearbox after 45000 Miles I find this an unnacceptable mileage has anyone else had this problem I will be writing to Toyota to see if they are willing to make a contribution to the replacement cost

I have heard of quite a few needing to be replaced, it seems to be one of common component weakness' with the old Avensis, a friend of mine has a fleet of facelift old shape Avensis' where he works and half have had to have new gearbox's after less than 100,000 miles some of them more than one.

I am surprised that there has not been more post on this issue.

I am thinking of changing my Avensis 86k miles. This issue will certainly influence my decision.

Has anyone got info of cost of gearbox repair.

Are there any advance warning symptoms?

I've a 99 avensis with over 120k and no gearbox issues..
