Buying A Celica Gt Coupe - Couple Of Q's

Hi all ,

Before I start I just want to say "hello" to everyone here. :)

I have just found this forum while searching for info on a Celica GT coupe (or GT4).

I wanted to ask a couple of questions.

1. I know the GT4 is 4 wheel drive (Self explanitary) but is the GT Coupe rear wheel Drive ?

2. As standard what are the 0-60 and top speeds of the GT Coupe and GT4 ?

If I did decide on one of the above I would like to add a few things. ie wheels, exhaust, induction kit and probably lower it aswell. The thing is in one of the posts here it says something about getting a full exhaust without CAT (catalytic converter ?) but to keep the cat for when an M.O.T is required as it will fail without it.

If this is the case would that also make your insurance invalid if you were to crash? what are your views on this.

Kind Regards

Hi,

Depends on what age GT/GT4 you want - Assuming it's a one of the more more modern mks the stats are as follows

1990-1994 Celica GT: 0-60= 8.2 secs Topspeed = 137mph

1990-1994 Celica GT4: 0-60= 6.7 secs Topspeed = 143 mph

1994-1999 Celica GT: 0-60=7.9 secs Topspeed = 139 mph

1994-1999 Celica GT4: 0-60= 6.1 secs Topspeed = 153mph

These are all uk spec cars

Stats Taken from www.parkers.co.uk

Not sure about the decat. All I know is from 92 on the cats are needed for MOT

In theory youor insurance would be invalid as it relies on a car having a current MOT. However, if your lawyers are of the expensive type you can argue the case that the lack of a cat was in no way contributary to the accident or theft. However you should have declarred on your policy that you have an aftermoarket exhaust. No other details should be asked for or supplied. Then atleast they are in the know. The idea then is to frontal it enough in the event of an accident that the emissions can not be checked. Or state that the MOT was done without the CAT. An MOT is a snap shot in time. It lasts a year but does not mean the car is still road worthy 2 minutes after you drive away.
