Hi,

Well I have now narrowed the alloys down to 2 sets and just waiting on prices see link, top set are the ACE 216's bottom set are the Toora Platinum 8 T940

Alloys 3

So I now have to make choices on tyres:

My Choices are:

Toyo Proxy T1-S

VS

Hankook Ventus Sport K104

On paper looking at each of the tyres characteristics they are closely drawn, as shown below.

Each section is awarded marks depending on performance

1 = excellent

5 = very poor

Yoyo T1-S

Grip in dry conditions Score 1.6

Braking in dry conditions Score 1.7

Grip in wet conditions Score 2.3

Braking in wet condition Score 2.5

Grip in snow Score 5.2

Comfort Score 3.2

Tyre noise (in car) Score 3.3

Tyre noise (external) Score 3.1

Tyre wear Score 4.2

Kilometres driven 15.00 km

Hankook K104

Grip in dry conditions Score 1.2

Braking in dry conditions Score 1.6

Grip in wet conditions Score 2.0

Braking in wet condition Score 2.4

Grip in snow Score 4.0

Comfort Score 1.8

Tyre noise (in car) Score 2.2

Tyre noise (external) Score 2.4

Tyre wear Score 1.6

Kilometres driven 61.500 km

Now I have never had either on any cars so in real life I cannot comment on them, would anyone like to tell me their opinions of these tyres preferably from first hand experience.

Cheers Dave

I guess characteristics change from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive.

I'm only experienced with front wheel drive and I currently have Toyo's fitted on the front wheels. I'm happy with them but not impressed. I know it doesn't help having 200bhp being put through the front wheels but the Toyos don't take much before they start to lose grip in the dry and they get worse in the wet. They are better than the Yokos which were poor in the dry and next to useless in the wet.

I found Avon ZZ3's the best choice for my car as they provide superb grip in dry and still very good in the wet, but they wear fast.

As I say though, thats FWD and the MR2 is a completely different set up.

cant fault the toyos had them on my last 3 cars,

and dont forget they have a new proxy out thats purposed to be

even better than the T1S.

I've had Toyo's T1/S on all 3 of my MR2's, I've always found them good value and widely available for the size I require.

However with Toyo's in particular in the wet, I feel the car understeers much too easily. I tried Yoko's which IIRC were slightly better.

I was told to forget these if you plan on doing any trackdays as they melt.

Had big tyre discussion on IMOC and all round everyone says Bridgestone SO3's are best.

They arn't to expensive, i just phoned local tyre place and a pair of 225/45/16s inc fitting, balancing, valves + vat are £218
