can anyone help me with a problem that is driving me wild.I have a 1991 landcruiser prado SX5 2.5 turbo diesel EFI.sometimes it starts on the button with no problems, other times it wont start for ages and i end up running my Battery flat.i leave it for a few hours then come back use jump leads and it starts, runs without a problem for a day or two then starts playing up again.also while idling it stutters and also can cut out.I have changed the fuel filter housing and the leak off pipes but to no avail. This problem is driving me crazy as no mechanic i have asked has a clue about it,please can somebody put me out of my misery so i can carry on driving my cruiser without problem.

It sounds like air in the fuel system

I recently had some starting trouble with my Colorado. Once it finally started it ran fine but it was a pig to start

I finally traced the problem to air getting into the fuel system. I changed the fuel filter, replaced all the jubilee clips from the filter to the fuel pump still to no avail. Unfortunately the only direction to go then was underneath (to the fuel tank).

I took the fuel tank off and discovered that the fuel pick-up pipe had a hole in it. Once repaired the problem was cured. (the top of the tank seems to be a water trap).

Not sure if this is the problem with your's but it could be another direction to go in.
