Quick question about MOT's and de-cat pipes...

I have a friend who has just bought a '92 (J plate) MR2, it'sa UK car and he will be upgrading the exhaust.

On a UK Car, '92 J plate could he legally get away without a CAT for MOT purposes ??

Can't remember when the law came into it's own :D

Catalyst check on UK cars and imports with a comparable UK version is 1st August 1992 (ie K-plate onwards)

According to one of the mot inspectors @ my local Honda(urgh) dealer you can take the cat out, even on a k plate and above, if the emissions stay under the limits but you gotta find the right mot station and i personally wouldn't try it, just take the cat out replace it with a decat pipe and when mot time comes up swap them back over
