Hi, doing some research on the AE101 4age engine swap as i would like to go through with it maybe this year if all goes well. The thing i can't decide on is whether to use the standard 5-speed box or use the 6-speed box from the Ae101 levin??? Can anyone tell me the advantages or disadvantages between the two?? <_<

AE101 Levin never came with a 6-speed. It came only with the close ratio C56 in many models, or a short final-drive version of the C52, both 5-speeds. The AE111 Levin, however, DID come with a 6-speed in some models (C56 in others), which was the C160. A bit more fragile than the C52 and C56 in terms of power handling, and a close relative of the C161 and C162 used in the AE111 G6R, ZZE112 SR, and EE111 G6. Other than that, the advantages of 6 gears is obvious... not sure the specific ratios for them, but I know the C56 (and short final-drive C52) have the engine spinning like a dervish at even modest motorway speeds, while the 6-speed may not, assuming a wider ratio spread. Maybe some G6/G6R/late SR owners can help shed some light on this?

The only advantage of my 6-speed (1.3  ) is that when I'm pulling away from the lights in haste, I change-up a gear later than a 5-speed which gives the impression it's pulling away quicker, but in reality it only because of the the 5-speed has had to change earlier, and you obviously get a pause between gears.

I think the best people to help would be G6R and late SR owners because they have the 6speed AND 1.6 engines, so their experience will be more valuable.

p.s. I rag the hell out of my car and had to have the bearings changed, but that's after a 100,000miles of my driving. So it can take some stick, bearing in mind it 83bhp of japanese Muscle (or was it "Mr Muscle")

So the six speed has a wider powerband? so i can take corners in 2nd and still go fast? hummmmmmm..................... <_< Any idea if the G6R, G6 & SR have the same gear ratios?
