Totally Idiotic Question About License Plate Screw

Recommended Posts

Posted

Okay, I don't know ANYTHING about cars. Nada, zip, zilch. I have a 1996 Tercel two-door model and I lost my license plate off the front of the car. I need to get another and I need screws to get it on there. It's the plastic bumper they're being screwed into. Also, I need an additional screw for the back plate, which is still intact. The back plate screws into the trunk door so I'm not sure if the screw types are separate. Are these screws proprietary to this model or are license plate screws a common size that all cars use? Where can I get them and what exactly am I asking for when I walk into the store to get them?

You could just stick it on... :P

Halfords do the proper screw kits with the coloured covers.ask for them at the parts desk dude,i used to work there.

I'm thinking - location: USA... ;)

why don't you take the remaining screw out, measure it and then go to a hardware store and get some more? :)

I took it out and to a hardware store and tried to match it but it didn't seem to match anything in the store. That got me wondering if it was maybe a proprietary set of screws.

hmmm they should be just normal screws, I can't see any reason why there would be a special type of license plate screw

sticking the plate on i dont think is a good thing to do.. surely the plate must be changed as the license runs out on them??

two types of screws.. plastic and self tapping screws.

length should not really matter.. its the girth of the screw that has to be the same.

( ooohhh errr sorry if that sounded rude  )
