Sir, <_< you appear to want something affordable yet cheap to insure at your age (18), but understandably you want a vehicle with a bit of 'interest'. If this is the case and you don't do many miles (plus I don't know what your technical/mechanical knowledge may be) have you considered going 'Classic' as these sort of vehicles (60's, 70's early 80's) are always cheap on insurance.

When I was your age this was the route I tool straight away; I had a 1969 Mini Clubman ( Complete with Cibie Spotlights) and a 1957 Austin A35. Your choice could be endless: Capri, MGB GT, spitfire, Midget, Anglia, RWD Escort, Morris Minor, Beetle and Even MK1 MR2 which is now reaching classic status, examples of all of the above can be bought as really good runners for less then £1800 as for your insurrance less than £600 at a specialist.

Give it a try you might like it (I know I did )

twincam gti has hit the nail on the head, i reckon thats the best bit of advice ive read, i fancied a capri when i passed my test but the lack of a decent one stopped that idea.

mk1 mr2 sounds good but the insurance would be a killer for an 18yr old.

why not buy an old mini or panda and insure it with you as named driver to get your no claims, then get another car u will be drivin and get your mam, dad insured on it with you further down the policy to save money, lad i used to work with did this, 19yr old with a sierra cosworth, lovely car pushin nearly 400hp, was summit silly like 500 for insurance. ths car was a beast and got black flagged on a track day doin over 170!

naw id rather get a newer car, hate cars with noise, and hate cars that rattle etc. i.e. my clio. like the feel of a good car with power stearing and ABS. group 4 insurance is what i will go 2..

I had a rover k reg 1.4 sli 3dr , totaly kitted out to look like a gti

with blacked out windows.. was an awsome car to thrash and sounded

brilliant with a scorpion backbox. Still was abit slow though getting

overtaken by vans :o
