Hi,

Has anyone changed the Toyota STD tyre size from 195/55/15 to 205/50/15??

If so what difference has it made to the car as ive heard that there is less understeer but you loose a tad steering feel is this correct?

Would anyone recommend doing this?

YES :D

No

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave

Just having a look at the banzai book and in there they have got a mr2 phoenix's powered car. And they reckon that they have got the handling perfect with a set up off 215/35/17 front and 255/35/18 to the rear :o

If your brave enough why not do the same but on small rims size?

Essentially if you put the 195 on the front you will get more understeer. 195/55's give you moe feedback through the steering, but understeer with 225s on the rear. 205's get rid of this, but there is less steering feedback.

195's for me :)

Cheers

I don't suppose it says what width the alloys are? ie 7.5J, 8J etc

To fit 255/35/18's you will need a min of 8.5J upto a 10J size to accomodate them

Im in the same position as thedude in regards to front tyres but why would you want more understeer kiwi? Is it worth the tradeoff? Also id assume in the wet the 195s would perform better due to thier width than an equal quality brand with 205 width?

Hi Dave

So are they delivering the tyres to your house or your nearest tyre garage? If so did they include the fitting charge to the tyres as well?

Hi Jerry

Having the tyres delivered strait here, one of my mates works for Reg Vardy so I will get a free tyre fit and ballance (well cost me a few pints)

Pleased with the price and service so far, just wait and see what the delivery time scale is as they quote 5-7 working days.

on stock rims, Toyota had 195's up front .. on the rev1 .. then 205's on the front for rev2+ I believe .. to help the understeer.

I'd not go like PP with 255's on the rear .. unles I had 235's up front ..

Im running the oem 15's and they are 195's front 225 back. That's standard I think :)

I think 195/55/15 is front oem & 225/50/15 is oem back.
