Jims Diff....

Recommended Posts

Posted

When driving about earlier, started to notice a clunk clunk noise coming from the

rear left wheel of the car

Thought it was the bolts in the diff coming loose as its happened before.

But on closer inspection there is a hole in the diff between two of the bolts holding it to the drive shaft!!

So, why would this happen?

And does anyone have a spare diff lying about cos i'd say he's off the road now.

Sometimes the bolts that hold the CV joint together come undone and as they get further out they grind a hole in the gearbox as the joint rotates.

Thats what i think may have happened....

Can the ends be replaced or will a complete new diff be required?

And will this be the cause of the noise?

if its damaged then you'll have to replace it.

I priced one up from MR-T last month and i wasnt impressed with how much they quoted me for one

had a problem with the bolts going from the back box to the flexi section,

Rock solid!! Then it started pouring so had to abandon it again :ffs:

Going to local tire place in the morn to get them to buzz them loose

then should be easy after that because i had everything else off already.

So you where right... day after tomorrow
