Gearbox/clutch Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I am having some problems with either the gearbox or the clutch not sure which it is and need some advice :help:

I have an organic clutch fitted to my 2 but don’t ask what make etc as this was done around 3K ago and pre-UK by the last owner, the problems are two fold and listed below, advice and help is required please

Problem 1)

I am having difficulty when going down the gears to get her into first I have to be stood still before she will go in as though the synchros is not lining up maybe, I have no problems with the first few gears when ging up the box (oh Err :P ).

Problem 2)

When I am going really flat out through the revs and I mean going for it I get to 4th and all is fine but my problem is engaging 5th, so what is happening is its very hard to select the gear and when it does go in it makes a grinding type noise the sound you get when you put it in gear without the clutch in that type of sound.

So is this a gearbox or clutch problem and any ideas on a fix?

Cheers Dave

I am going to do an oil change to se if this helps after the adjustment.

Been told to use 80/90 grade oil, but what make of oil is suggested?

Cheers Dave

Alot of people have found using Redline MT90 in their gearboxes helps when selecting first and second.  Its expensive stuff at £13 a bottle (you need 4 bottles), try searching for it Im sure I've seen threads on it.
