Doubtful i know but any tricks to get more MPG out of my car? costs me a fortune to see my GF!

Also was thinking what car would cost me the least in petrol/diesel on a round trip 200 mile motorway journey?

stick to 3000 rpm no higher.

put a 1800 cc engine in it.

a pug 206 running on chip pan oil and parafin.

take off the spoiler riser blocks and sell em to me.

ST205 spoiler with extension blocks. These have the effect of noticeably increasing downforce at speeds over 100-120 km/h. It is also reported to knock 20km/h off the 260km/h top speed

just how much is it costing you to do 200 miles round trip ?

it would cost me about £ 25 to £ 35 at a steady 56 mph.

i get about 17mpg around town and about 20mpg at 100 or near 35 mpg at 70

basically to and from work (7 mile journey... 2 miles thru centre of town and 5 on 50mph roads) i get about 90 miles for £20 of optimax which really bugs me cos i take it really easy... if i drive like a nun i only get 100 miles for £20.

cooki you should get alot more than that mate , i get more than that from the gt4 . driving like a nun.

sounds to me the short journeys are eating it due to the cold start staying on late.

your 35mpg at 70 mph sounds realistic.

LORD ED ARE YOU RUNNING OPTIMAX ALSO. OOPS CAPS ARE ON . maybe your lambda sensor cooki , reset the ecu next fill up and see if it makes any difference for a while  just a crazy thought. either that or train it to run on unleaded and lose a certain ammount of horsepower , my gt4 was running happily on unleaded but performance took a nose dive , it still got top speeds but the time taken was vastly longer.

Where did you find this info maleborn?? Just wondering because I was reading an article only the other week which was saying that the Ford Escort Cosworth with the whale tail was the only production road car to have a spoiler which actually created any noticeable downforce.

The cossie thing is probably due more to the weight than anything.

I`ve bought a 2nd car for doing the work and shopping runs. little 1.6 mazda 323. 40mpg all day long. Which is actually saving me 20 quid a week after you take road tax and insurance out. And seeing as i only paid a pittance for it i dont even have to worry about the cost of water to wash it.

And the GT4 is now a full time cosseted pampered toy.:D

could be a dodgy temp sensor fulling the ecu to think its cold all the time , there are 2 sensors 1 for the temp gauge and 1 for the ecu, dont know how to test it though lol, a clogged up cat might also effect mpg , basicly theres so many things it could be you might just have to bite the bullet and get it checked out , if u get it fixed you will make the cost of the repair back in no time with the savings u will be making.. as i told you on msn i get 150+ to £20 so theres no reason why u cant .

because cooki has to run on optimax which is dearer so he wont get as many miles to the gallon as you do.

yeah cookci is right, but Lord_ed is right that under the context of the thread subject, using optimax will reduce the number of miles to £20, which I'm sure is what maleborn meant!

Obviously if I could buy petrol for 30p a litre I would get a hell of a lot more miles for £20 than most people!

I guess that's why it is more common to use mpg rather than mp£20 :P

I've just emptied my tank on the 1.8ST to see how many miles to the gallon I get, through town use only with an average speed of 10 miles per hour. Should be done with the results in about 3 weeks!

i find that my gt gets more mpg using optimax or bp ultimate than i do using normal 95, dont ask me why or how iv not got a clue lol

Wouldnt the car idle quickly if the ECU thought it was still cold?

So that leaves lambda sensor and cat? Wouldnt an emissions test prove the lambda is working?
