Increasing Mpg On Your Car?

yeah cookci is right, but Lord_ed is right that under the context of the thread subject, using optimax will reduce the number of miles to £20, which I'm sure is what maleborn meant!

Obviously if I could buy petrol for 30p a litre I would get a hell of a lot more miles for £20 than most people!

I guess that's why it is more common to use mpg rather than mp£20  :P

I've just emptied my tank on the 1.8ST to see how many miles to the gallon I get, through town use only with an average speed of 10 miles per hour. Should be done with the results in about 3 weeks!

thats what i meant young man.:thumbsup:

Doubtful i know but any tricks to get more MPG out of my car? costs me a fortune to see my GF!

Also was thinking what car would cost me the least in petrol/diesel on a round trip 200 mile motorway journey?

yeah- buy a diesel :P

If you want economy run a diesel, if you want looks then keep the Celi - you can't have both. (I was going to say performance and looks but some of the new diesels ***** all over the Celica nowadays and still return over 40mpg

depending on your age etc for insurance - it might be cheaper to get another car - I suppose it depends on how many journeys you are doing.

I had a 1.9 turbo diesel 306 before the Celica 1.8ST, and I was getting roughly the same mpg - Will know in a week or so (just testing the celica) but that's because I drive 5 miles to work at an average sped of 10mph. But for you doing a 200 mile round trip a diesel would be perfect. Just seems a shame as you probably want the comfort of a grand tourer type car like the celica for such journeys!!

You can't win - unless you can get a diesel lump put in your celica :lol:

Seriously though you could look into LPG??

an immissions test would only show that the cat is working, not the lamda, you can get a new lamda for around £30 from SAP ;)

on an mot test it dont, but if youre speciffically going for an emmisions , lamda sensor test then they will.

:ph34r: according to my manual the gt4 spoiler blocks add 50kg oh=f downforce at 60mphso i guess this would slightly inhibit your top speed :

ST205 spoiler with extension blocks. These have the effect of noticeably increasing downforce at speeds over 100-120 km/h. It is also reported to knock 20km/h off the 260km/h top speed

 What the hell? I've managed over 450miles once from the Supra on a normal tank of 95ron supermarket stuff.

Blimey.....dont remember either of my gen6 celicas being that thirsty off boost

But anyway lets face it the ge/gte series engines arent built for economy - if you want decient mpg get a nice 1.9TD Audi or something  Should be able to touch 60mpg and then you always have the ability to run on sunflower oil ;)

Where did you find this info maleborn?? Just wondering because I was reading an article only the other week which was saying that the Ford Escort Cosworth with the whale tail was the only production road car to have a spoiler which actually created any noticeable downforce.

The supras have similar stats with the rear spoilers too
