Basically, I want to re-finish my drums.

They are stained green with loads of lacquer at the moment, im wondering whats needed to do it.

Can I use nitromorse to take it back to the wood or will it damage it?

Will normal primer seep into the wood causing a crap overall finish?

What kind of paint and primer should I use?

Im after a pearlescent yellow/orange finish, can I get this in aerosol or would I have to go to a bodyshop?

How can I dry/cure it more quickly without warping it?

Cheers

Dave

You gota be really careful with drums - the slightest change in density of material will alter the sound of them be it for better or worse...

When reading your first post I thought you might be having problem "getting wood" :P

But also want to change the colour of mine but don't want to alter the sound...

HELP!

P.S.What you think of the kit I'm having built? 6 piece kit with top = stippled black wood, middle = thick white acrylic, bottom - stippled black wood :P

Easiest way to change the colour but not risk affecting the sound is cover them in Sticky backed plastic. No one will notice as drummers are nearly always at the back of the band !

If you want to paint it though, you could just key the lacquer that's already on the drums ( light sand to remove any shine on the finish ) and then paint over this. The original lacquer underneath will ensure that the fresh paint won't seep into the wood and affect the characteristics of the drum.
