Dash Illumination

I just seen this topic discussed on the Yaris forum so I thought I'd ask about it here on the Corolla pages too...

How do I change the dash illumination? When the headlights are off the display seems too bright and when the headlights are on the display seems too dark!

(Corolla T Sport 2004)

I've got a Corolla T2 but assume the same (is on Avensis). With the lights on - press the button the odometer so it scrolls through trip etc.. you will see a new display with lots of lines on it - like this

or similar - (from memory this!!) . Press and hold the button and you will notice the number of lines reduce and your display will also either get brighter or darker. Keep fiddling about until you get preffered display. Unfortunately doesn't change the display without lights off but will when on - stops it glowing like the tardis!
